Do you know why the Church choose the Scriptures it does for Mass?

the liturgical readings are chosen 3 years in advance, i believe.

i am wondering how they are chosen? I know that there is usually a common theme between the OT readings and the New… but other than that… just wondering the rhyme and reasoning of it… & who makes the decisions

i know we hear the entire Bible in 3 yrs by going to daily Mass…

but are you saying we know the basics of Christianity… in one year (of Mass attendance)?

If memory serves me right? All of the churches that are members of the National Counsil of Churches have the same verses on a given Sunday. Years ago I checked around, and found that to be true. You will have to do your own research to find out what is going on nowadays, becasue back then the Catholic Church was doing its best to be more like the mainline Protestant Churches here in America. (A new English Mass, a new American Bible, etc, etc)

The Venerable and Holy Tridentine Mass has only Two Readings: Epistle & Gospel and functions on a one-year lectionary with the same readings every year…It’s worked well for the past 15 or so centuries…so…if it ain’t broke…don’t fix it.

When the Catholic Church went to the 3 year cycle of Lectionary readings, the mainline Protestant churches liked the idea and copied it from us (not the other way around). Of course they use their own translations and do not have the feast days we have (as most do not honor saints).
