If so, has it caused any problems for you? Sometimes, I find it hard to avoid it. For instance, you go out to lunch with coworkers on a Friday, and when you order appetizers, if you say you can’t eat it, because it has meat in it, people are going to ask questions. Normally, people are pretty professional about it, and I haven’t had any bad experiences, but sometimes it does get a bit awkward. I mean, I don’t flaunt my Catholicity at work, either. I guess I’m a little self-conscious about it. What’s your take on this? Thanks in advance!

Everybody knows I am. WOrk is no exception. Of course with a celtic cross tattoo on one arm & a guardian angle on the other, it’s hard to hide 😃

Most people at work who know me more than casually know what’s up in my life. I’ve only identified myself as Catholic for a few months, though, so I might be more vocal than the average person.

Easter Vigil 2010 😃

Everyone knows I’m a Catholic at work, and I love my faith. 🙂 No need to hide it.

I don’t care who knows I’m Catholic. 😃

My cube is FILLED with Catholic stuff - I’ve even had a guy stop borrowing my cube when I’m working from home because he just didn’t like being surrounded by it. Oh well, no biggie, he can find another cube to sit in. 😉

I cross myself at meals, and will not eat meat on (any) Friday. If someone is placing an order for the table, then I just politely ask if one of the items can be meat free please. I don’t make a bit deal out of it, I could be vegetarian for all they know. But if someone does ask, I will tell them that I’m Catholic and I don’t eat meat on Fridays. Sometimes they will say they thought that was only during Lent, but I will explain that I don’t eat meat on any Friday.

So - to answer your question - no, I am not uncomfortable about it. It often gives me an opportunity to talk about the Faith, and you just never know who you work with might pop up as Catholic! I’ve been very pleasantly surprised!

Let’s see…I have a celtic cross, a Mary calendar, and a Mary icon on the walls of my office, a Divine Mercy image and Fatima image on my desk, a crucifix around my neck, my signature line in my email is Scripture in Latin, and my schedule is arranged so that I get off early on Tuesdays and Wednesdays so I can take my sons to CCD. I’m pretty sure everyone knows.

Our yeah they all know, and it hasn’t caused problems. Does make for some interesting conversations sometimes.

I don’t remember ever going out of my way to do so, but I have never kept it hidden. I think it’s a great way to witness to our Faith without being “in your face”.

Also, if it comes out that you are Catholic, it might open the door for someone who is interested in learning more about being Catholic. The first person who brought Catholicism into my life (I am a convert) was a Catholic co-worker…who wore a large wooden cross.

I tell people that I go to church, usually because my schedule interferes with it a lot. I only tell a handful that I’m Catholic, though. It hasn’t caused any problems as of yet.

Well three of my recent jobs were ones where the person who hired me knew me from my parish. So those folks knew I was Catholic. 😃

The last jobs I had that I actually went to lunch with people, yeah, a lot of them knew I was Catholic. And I knew what, if anything, they were too. I don’t remember how I found out but we all just knew. A lot of the people I worked with were Catholic.

I guess we almost never ordered appetizers because the only times I ever remember Fridays being a problem was when I was with Catholics who didn’t care what day it was. Go figure. 🤷

It kind of hard not to let on I am Catholic since I work at a Catholic Church and my name is on the front of the bulletin.😃

Although I’m not working outside my home, right now… … I’ve been in the work force since 1977.

I never once… felt I had to hide my Catholic faith. Always talked about it, whenever appropriate. And found that quite a few of my co-workers (well, in California… anyway)… were also Catholic. I was always respected by non-Catholic co-workers, just as I tried to respect them in whatever faith they belonged to.

God bless.

When I used to work in an office for one of the largest Archdioceses in this country, most of my co-workers thought I was looney for going to Mass during my lunch break!

Of course, one of them was quite vocal in his opposition and disgust over the dogma of the Immaculate Conception! He held some crazy theory that priests pushed for it because of their own sick obsession with their mothers and his “proof” was that some priests held on to locks of their mother’s hair. What really upset me was that he decided he had the right to share his personal belief with an RCIA class he helped run rather than submit himself to the Church and follow Her lead!!!

Another one said anyone who believes Satan exists is messed up in the head! I couldn’t believe half the discussions!:confused:🤷

Point of my post: you would think that working in a Catholic institution, being a practicing Catholic would be shared and respected…not necessarily, as I learned from experience.

Everyone knows that I am Catholic. I do not hide my faith ~ even most of my clients know that I am Catholic.

Ironically, I have never been given too hard a time but I will say that this past election season was a tough one. 80% of the people I work with are Catholic. Half that are “practicing” Catholics. I was shocked and saddened to see so many of them support Obama. So I took flack for reminding them of our faith and what it teaches. Sadly fell on deaf ears but I will not be silent.

Love my faith and the older I get, the more I appreciate the beauty and simplicity that is our Catholic faith and heritage!

The problem is that many people, including Catholics who should definitely know better, toss the “abortion issue” as an issue among many other issues, rather than acknowedging the fact that one candidate supports and will, indeed, help to mass murder unborn babies during his time in office :eek:

yea everyone at work knows I’m catholic. I’m a student, and I currently hold 2 seasonal part time jobs. At the one it’s kinda a family business, and most of the coworkers are Dutch Reformed, aka anti catholic. But I’ve been working there for 2 years and haven’t had too many problems thus far. At my other job my manager goes to my parish. She announced to everyone on my first day that I attend the same catholic church as she does. yay! 😃

I worked in a Catholic hospital. My faith was never an issue. But no matter where I work, it will be known that I am Catholic. They will have to live with it. It is already a part of who I am.
