Do you like Easter Vigil Mass or Easter Sunday Mass?

I really like both very much; I haven’t missed either in the past 30+ years.

At the Vigil mass I function as the Master of Ceremonies; and I function as an EMHC at the 10:30 A.M. mass.

**I haven’t been to either but since I’m being confirmed at the Easter Vigil, I’ll find out real soon. I’m anxious and excited at the same time. I feel I have found my spiritual home. It’s a wonderful feeling.

I feel the exact same way. I can hardly wait. My 6 year old son will be baptized, and my wife and I will be confirmed this Saturday!

It is wonderful.

I’m going to be baptized and confirmed at Easter Vigil. I’m also scheduled to be a lector at the 9:00 Easter Mass, plus hope to attend the 11:30 at the Cathedral. I’ll let you know!

Unfortunately, we are only doing two of the OT readings. Plus no Litany of the Saints. Plus we’re starting while it’s still light out, so we won’t really have the “church in darkness” part.

I think the “grave pastoral reason” is that it takes too long otherwise. After our “RCIA Lite,” none of this surprises me.

******Now that I’ve been to both the Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday Mass…they were very different. I would pick the Easter Vigil. It was my first time and my confirmation…night…it will always be very special in my heart.

We don’t know that. Don’t forget, Jesus was a Jew and the Jewish Sabbath starts at sundown on Saturday.
You might have meant to say that the Jewish Sabbath ends at sundown on Saturday, it begins at sundown on Friday. But, as you said, we don’t know when He rose, as any time after sundown on Saturday would be considered the next day. The Gospels only tell us that by sunrise on Sunday He was already risen.

It was early in the morning and still dark when Mary Magdalene went to the tomb to embalm His body, according to St. John.

Too bad Jesus hasn’t risen yet at vigil…
We don’t know when Jesus actually rose; it was during the night (which is why the Vigil starts after dark - that is, it should start not at sunset, but later; out here in the Portland area we start at 8:30).

We alos don’t know when Jesus was born, but we celebrate it on December 24th (evening Mass) and at midnight as well as the next day; evidence seems to indicate it may have been in the spring.

Right. He was already risen before the sun rose. No argument there.
