Just step into the Ladye chapel in St Francis’ church in Melbourne… you can smell the wax of burning candles, dozens of fresh flowers placed at the altar and I’d say you can even smell the wood of the pews… I could spend a whole day there… 🙂

Yes! I went to Roman Catholic church as a child and although I now go to Anglo-Catholic church (not through any conscious rejection! More a practical thing 🙂 ) which smells exactly the same - I find it lovely and familiar and it seems to soothe that part of me which gets itchy feet around gatherings of people.

Real frankincense is easy to get a hold of. It is sometimes referred to as Frankincense tears, it is a resin collected from trees. I’ve seen it for sale in health food stores, shops in Greek orthodox churches and a million places online.

I have never found a stick or cone incense, even those labeled frankincense that smells the same.

Resin incense is burned on charcoal discs, which can be purchased the same places the incense can.

It is also easy to find frankincense essential oil, it’s a bit pricey but has a lovely scent, not exactly the same as burning but pure and pungent. Also found at health food stores or online.

Most people do not like the scent of myrrh. It is not used as Church incense. you can find myrrh in the same forms as frankincense…resin, essential oil.

Often candles and air sprays that say “frankincense and myrrh” smell nothing like either of them, though they may be pleasantly scented.

I like the smell of bees wax candles and incense. It’s how I imagine heaven smelling. :):highprayer:

After years of burning candle wax and incense, the smell has penetrated the walls and pews.
Hence the awesome smell.

I to have gone to other churches and it’s never like walking into a catholic church. Upon entering I can feel, and smell Gods presence and the over whelming peace. It’s so intoxicating to me.
Thank you good Lord

I don’t know why but all Catholic Churches old and new(even ones in other countries) all smell good to me. It is a warm comforting smell like my home or my parents home smells. The strange thing is that I have been in Churches of all kinds of denominations including one Greek Orthodox Church and they don’t have that warm Catholic Church smell.

I know its a crazy questions but I am just wondering if others experience this as well.
Although I don’t notice it in every parish, I notice it most in my baptismal parish; the candles, the incense, the wood…I just can ‘feel’ it. It’s an older and smaller parish than my home parish.

My two parishes I frequent back at home…wow, they smell of frankincense and fresh lilies, it’s such a strong smell makes me feel so happy…my house now smells of a Catholic Church 😛

mine smells like the wooden benches. its ok, a memorable smell, ive encountered for years…
