What is the difference between Cocoa and Hot Chocolate? In this part of the world they are the same drink.

I like rum in my hot chocolate.

Hot cocoa is made with cocoa powder, milk and sugar.
Hot chocolate is made with an instant powder mix and water.

In the US we have “instant cocoa” that is mixed with water

Based upon these definitions, I like hot cocoa but dislike hot chocolate. I in fact don’t recall the last time I had the latter. This household loves its dairy
