That is the sequel, Roster Cogburn and the Lady.

*True Grit *co-stars Kim Darby as Mattie Ross, the little girl with a big gun, a Lawyer, Daggit, and a loathing to use contractions in her speech. 😃 👍

Also a second to any of Clint Eastwood’s westerns – “Ain’t nothin’ like a stout piece o’ hickory”

Also: Shanghai Noon, and on TeeVee, James Garner as Bret Maverick.

Tampopo is also great, even if it’s only a quasi-western (in a postmodern Japanese-food-obsession sort of way). It’s hilariously offbeat, and its general message seems to be ‘people are really weird about food’. The plot more or less follows two truckers who take it on themselves to educate the widowed owner of a small noodle shop on How To Make The Greatest Ramen, with lots of small subplots and totally disconnected vignettes, framed by the story of a gangster who really doesn’t like other people eating while he’s trying to watch a movie.

Wow–someone else has seen “Tampopo”??? Hilraious movie!

I second your picks on the Sergio Leone/Clint Eastwood stuff too – so stylish and gritty. I never liked westerns where people looked too clean. People sweated a lot in those days and rarely bathed if ever – the movies should convey this – not clean it up.

Oh of course - I’ve seen it too, though it was years ago so I don’t recall a lot of it. I did like it though 👍
 
I like most westerns with Clint Eastwood in them, there are many more, but it’s been a long time, used to love the “Virginian " and the “Rifle Man” with Chuck Connors.
Also watched” Alias Smith and Jones" sadly one of the characters passed away, and the stand-in just didn’t do it for me.
 
I love them but can’t give you specific favourites. Only some names I recall of things I’ve watched. I recall Lucky Luke when I was a child, I recall Dances with Wolves or the Winnetou ones, or a Wyatt Earp one, whatever the title was, but I don’t think I can really recall any titles. I don’t have a good memory memory for book, song or film titles. 😉

My Dad is a huge Western fan. His favorite is Once Upon a Time in the West. That music…it’s very haunting.

I haven’t seen all of Clint Eastwood’s westerns, but I liked Honkytonk Man. It was so sad. And does anyone remember him in The Beguiled? It’s not a Western, but set during the Civil War, made in Louisiana. It’s a very dark, strange, gothic movie.
 
Tombstone is one of my all-time favorite movies. Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday. He should have won an Oscar for that role.
 
A lot of older Western movies are being re-released on DVD. I’ve been borrowing a few from my local library. I really liked Shane and The Man From Laramie (both on DVD).
