I’d love some help from those of you who successfully make and use your own laundry detergent.

I specifically want to know:
  • what ingredients you use, how you mix it, and where you buy those ingredients
  • Does it work? Really? As in, competes-with-Tide, gets- out- all- those grubby- little- boy- stains work?
I think this is an area we could save money in, but since I can buy low brand name detergent at the dollar store, I’m not sure it’s really worth the time and effort. Tide seems to be the only stuff that works for us, and I’m wondering how homemade detergent compares…
Thanks for any help! 🙂

We did! We stopped though when we bought a hp washer. We have to use the special detergent for it.

This is what we used:

I pretreated the stains though with either a spray on treater or just using the fels naptha.

I currently use it. I used the same recipe as leonie for a year or so. Then I forgot to pick up the Fels Naptha once and subbed in a whole bar of Ivory soap per batch. It works for us on everything except chocolate soy milk.

Do you have to cook it like the recipe says? Those ingredients sound like the WAHM-made detergent I use, but it’s a powder. :hmmm:
