As a younging, I would have to say yes I do although I have never really known it. But I can remember stopping by a monastery way out in the boonies, and I walked in the back of the church. I can’t describe what I witnessed other than that the very stones of the church seemed to come alive:thumbsup: . Thanks and God Bless.

Oh goodness. We went to confirmation, my wife was sponsoring one of the girls. And they butchered the responses. Somehow they all ended up as pop songs. Made me sick.

ME WANT CHANT!

I have to admit that Chant is beautiful and reverent compared to some of the stuff that we use for hymns today. I agree Trelow…Me want chant too.

I wonder why no one has come up with new chants that would have the beauty and reverence of the old Gregorian stuff but are perhaps in English. Any musical types out there wanna take a swing at that?

C’mon guys! Like JPII quoted Jesus…“Be not afraid.”
Pax vobisum,

We have a great Gregorian Chant choir where I go (it is a Tridentine Mass though). It’s made up of primarily teenagers and people in their low twenties. They are amazing. The director asked if I did any singing. This was my response: :rotfl:

I believe it was St. Augustine who said those who sing pray twice. Well, I think I’ll just pray twice:D

If I’m at Mass where everyone is singing, then I will because I can blend in. Plus, my girlfriend gets mad at me if I don’t:p .

Yea, when I sing people pray more than twice, I guarantee you that. I feel sorry for those poor suckers standin’ around me, especially when we get a nice gut bustin’, soul stirin’, hymn.

Hi Church M

I do not miss Gregorian Chant as it was sung in the old days. It was mostly horrible.

Gregorian Chant is totally different in its make-up from modern music. It requires special training, which few people (I mean music directors) have.

I would love to hear more of it, but for now, I will have to rely mostly on recordings or going to mass in a Benedictine Monastery.
