Do you miss the era in which Barney the purple dinosaur ruled PBS?

This reminds me: someone once mistook the Pokémon in my avatar as a purple dinosaur.
I think that was me! Or if it wasn’t me I agreed with whoever it was that said it. Sorry. I don’t know a thing about Pokémon other than he is yellow.

I grew up with that show and enjoyed watching it as a kid, but I wouldn’t say I miss that “era”. Some children’s shows were pretty strange back then (Courage the Cowardly Dog, Angela Anaconda, Rocko’s Modern Life, etc.), while others were more wholesome (Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, Little Bill up until 5 years ago, Arthur up until recently).

Most children’s shows of the last 20 years seem to include talking animals, which is a rather annoying trend that Barney’s success might’ve helped influence.

I think the Pokémon you are referring to is pikachu and he is one of 700+ Pokémon that exist.

Anyway, I wasn’t really offended. I just wanted to take the chance to dump on our least favorite dinosaur.

Courage the Cowardly Dog is a gem from a time when cartoons weren’t afraid to take risks.

Sorry. I was beyond uninterested in Pokémon. I do remember other people being obsessed with it. I didn’t get it. Honestly, most of the anime and anime inspired shows completely passed me by except Sailor Moon. I did love Sailor Moon.

What do you mean by “right people” and “right thinking person?”

If you mean political spectrum, I know plenty of people on the left & right who didn’t like Barney…
Pretty sure Jharek is simply using the term to mean “sensible”, not politics.

Count me as another who never liked Barney.

I just wish it had more variety when it comes to gameplay. Umbreon is my favorite solely because of aesthetics.

I didn’t grow up with anime. I only started watching it in my late teens.

That just made my day! There is a similar Dora parody that I also find hilarious.

I’ve always really disliked Barney so I voted no, but I do miss that children’s shows used to not be used to indoctrinate children with whatever the P.C. police decide is the latest issue.

Well before Barney, the 1970s kid’s show Hot Fudge helped me get in touch with my feelings 😒
