Do you pack lunch for your working spouse or for yourself?

If yes, why?

If not, why not?

Yes.

Not sure exactly what you are asking in the second part … because he needs to eat.

I try to pack lunch for myself but I usually forget it in the fridge in the morning. :o The good thing is that my office is in chinatown so there are a bunch of cash only places where you can get a good lunch for about tree fiddy.

I always packed my own lunch. It saved us a lot of money, and it forced me to eat more sensibly. I would always pack carrots, bananas, V8 juice, etc. - often the only vegetables I would eat all day! 🙂

I keep lunch supplies around and my husband and the school kids mostly pack themselves lunches. I pack Baby Girl’s lunch for parents’ day out once a week and I pack us a lot of snacks for outings.

I used to pack the big kids’ school lunches every day until about 3 years ago, when they were 9 and 7 and I was pregnant and was put on bedrest. That was the end of my lunch-making career for the big kids.

My husband packs his own lunch most days. Sometimes I pack it for him but he’s learned that I might not be available to do it so he can’t rely on it. 😉 He also packs a breakfast because he can’t be bothered to wake up early enough to eat breakfast before he has to leave.

He is fortunate that frequently he has business lunches that are paid for - probably once a week or so. And on late nights he might get dinner, too.

But it is rare that he buys his own lunch - the only time might be if we are heading out his way and decide to have a “family date” where we all go out during his lunch. Thankfully, all the ladies at his office love seeing the kids. 😛

Oh, as to why: yes, mostly to save money, but it was just also the culture of the families we grew up in. Going out for lunch (or even buying lunch at school) was a special treat. I think even if we didn’t “have to” pack lunches we still would.

Yes I’ve packed many lunches for both myself and my husband. We do it to save money mostly.

I do it for myself because I like my own cooking better than almost anything I can buy. My hubby prefers last’s leftovers to anything he can buy as well. I usually make a big batch of something like soup or chili over the weekend and eat that most of the week. Last night, I made Sticky Chicken with Garlic Butter pasta for dinner and made enough so that both the hubby and I can eat that for lunch today. Both of us rarely eat lunch out.

I pack my lunch mostly to save money, but also time, since I don’t get a “lunch break” per se. It’s also much healthier. Sure I could buy a salad from a restaurant for $8, but my homemade salad cost about $1 and tastes much better.

DH always packs lunch or snacks for the kids if they are going to be away from home for awhile. Again, 90% to save money, but also because it is healthier.

My option doesn’t seem to be on the poll. I pack my own lunch but not my working spouse’s. She works part time and is usually at home enough during the day that she doesn’t need to pack a lunch. Also, she’s more prone to buy something to eat than I am.

I pack every day to save money and because it’s healthier. It’s also easier than going out to buy. I buy lunch every two or three months.

Yes, this! Much better than eating out! When we are on vacation, I can’t wait to get home and cook our food! Much better selection, tastes better, and of course, it costs less.

I used to pack my husband’s lunch a lot…along with my own lunch.

To save money mostly but also for the convenience factor.

Before my husband and I had kids and when I was still working…the two of us had insane hours.

I worked 24 hour shifts as a medic…plus I’d pick up overtime…minimum of 12 hour shifts once or twice a week.
Those days are very long, you don’t have a “lunch break”, and you’ve got to pack food and snacks for breakfast lunch and dinner…plus, stuff on the overnight to help keep you going.
So I’d bring a cooler filled with stuff.

My husband worked, and still does, 12 hour shifts that would switch every three months from days to nights.

The months he worked days…yes, I’d pack his lunch. When he worked nights…I wouldn’t usually…his inner time clock was messed up and he’d get down to eating only one meal a day…before he left for work.
Sometimes it would be more of a waste packing him something because he wouldn’t eat it.

That was several years ago.

These days I’m not working…I’m in school full time.
I’m also heavily pregnant and I just can’t be bothered to be honest.
I put the kids to bed every night and would have enough time at night to clean the house, get laundry done and do homework/study.
Then it would be late and I’d have to go to bed.

Right now? I’m so pregnant…I’m barely functioning and barely keeping up with two kids and the absolute basics in terms of housekeep (laundry and dishes)…and I’m almost at the point where cooking a meal is hard.

I’ll probably start back up again once the kids get older and are in school.
Plus, I almost always packed a lunch when I worked…regardless of the job I had.

My husband packs his own lunch at night…especially before his day shift. But, sometimes he doesn’t…if we’re too busy.

I definitely agree with this.

My husband is a an excellent cook and normally I’d pack whatever leftovers we had the night before.
Way better, cheaper and healthier then any fast food one could find.

I just happened to make my self a sandwich this morning to bring to work - and I actually remembered it. My wife had a corporate job where business lunches were the norm. She was laid-off yesterday, so that is about to change. I wonder if I can get her to start making me lunches. Anyone want to ask her for me?

I have packed lunch for my girlfriend and met her at the convenience store at 6:30 AM on her way to work to give it to her.

I do it because I love her.

I’m a SAHM, and DH works outside the house, but we kind of reverse it: I generally pack a lunch for myself, but not for him. He is used to eating out every day, and when I did pack his lunch, he’d be so bored with it after a couple of weeks (he wouldn’t take anything except PBJs and some fruit/chips) that he’d just stop eating. Since he’s underweight anyway, that was Not A Good Thing. 😛

I, however, always eat lunch just after I get DD down for her nap, which means that I’m starving at that point. If I make a salad in the morning and put it in the fridge, all I have to do is pull it out, add some dressing, and eat it. That I can do. If I have to make it at lunchtime, though, I’m far more likely to eat something unhealthy. Therefore, packing my lunches is a good idea, even if it might sound a bit silly!

Yes, no and sometimes.

I pack a lunch once a week, because I work outside the home just one day a week. On that same day, I pack a lunch for my husband. And he eats at work.

The rest of the time I am at home, and my husband comes home for lunch.

Unless we go out. Then I will meet up with him somewhere.

I’m a spoiled brat and my grandmother packs my lunch.

When I was married, I did pack his lunch. I regret doing that now. He’s grown, he was fully capable.

Yes, I am also fully capable, but again, I am a spoiled brat. I’m rotten to the core.
