Nothing changes for me.

I am stuck with the same negative mind. The same predilections. The same things I find irritating with my neighbors. The same shame and disgust at my own failures in both earthly and spiritual matters.

Faith is not about feelings. Confess, amend your life, move on.

Some people get emotional feelings from confession, but, not everyone.

The feelings of irritation, disdain, despair, etc always return.

I can resist acting out physically…but the thoughts torment me and are still there.

We go to confession to be forgiven. Afterwards, it is of us to improve upon that and do our best to follow God’s word. Doesn’t mean that we wont fall to sin again, we are all sinners. I sin on things I have done before, seems like I wont learn, but what is it of me to not try again and again to satisfy God’s word? We will continue to sin, but we shouldn’t give up and fall to it. God will see our struggles and we must keep persisting in fixing our imperfections for God, even if it takes to the day we are judged.

I would tend to believe that confession is about renunciation (as alluded to above) maybe even more so than forgiveness. It is probably about transformation just as prayer is.
May you be filled with loving kindness. May you be well. May you be peaceful and at ease. May you be happy.

I found that praying a novena to Our Lady of Sorrows really helped my identify areas in need of improvement and sincere contrition for those sins, and helped me with strength to begin to change things. You can find the novena on line.
