Do you pray for God to bless newly bought household items, jewelries, etc?

kind of like saying grace before eating? asking this because i came across an article at forbes and it says this certain jewelry maker has a “priest and a shaman bless her inventory” which kind of freaks me out.

who knows what kind of spell they put on it, but i believe as long as we are in a state of grace, we are safe. makes me think, i do not want to give ‘blessed’ objects (by other religions) as gifts to my love ones.

am i overthinking this?

About the selling you mentioned of supposedly blessed objects: If a priest blesses something, and it is sold, I believe that the blessing becomes invalid.

If I wanted something blessed, I would just ask a priest to do it. We can bless meals, and, if I’m not mistaken, parents can bless their children, but anything else should be left to a priest.

No I don’t. They’re objects, mostly frivolous objects. To me it feels overly materialistic to presume to bother God with blessing them.

It wouldn’t even occur to me to do this.

The exception is jewelry that is a cross. I’ll have that blessed by a priest.

We’ve also had our cars blessed, too.

If I’m reading you right, you’re not asking about it in a general sense in order to have jewelry, etc… blessed, but rather to break any “curse” put on an object without you knowing it.

I didn’t realize until I saw (on EWTN) a psychologist that works with Catholic priests in the area of exorcism that one reason grace was always said over food before eating it was to negate any “bad juju” that had been prayed over it… So, all that to say I don’t really know what they would recommend, if anything.

To thank the good Lord for the food, and to thank Him for His many blessings, too.

I’m sure that’s what you do, that doesn’t negate what the gentleman said, as he specifically talked of blessing benefit alongside the thanks (and I felt it does kind of speak to what the OP asked about). As I said, he’s a Catholic, and works with Catholic priests who are exorcists, I’m simply reporting what was shared (in the past in certain cultures meat was slaughtered in religious customs, he presented the blessing as a way to make sure there was no lingering spiritual issues with it).

This was also a reason why many prayed before and after a meal. The first is a blessing, where you are literally calling down a blessing on the food (Bless us Oh Lord and these Thy gifts…) and the last, after the meal is eaten, is a thanks (We give Thee thanks for all Thy benefits, O Almighty God…). So, it’s one of those both/and situations.

Absolutely not. A Rosary yes, but household items in my view is silly.

^Kliska, i agree with what you said above and that is the way i understand it too.

my prayer before meals have always been this one: “BLESS US O LORD AND THESE THY GIFTS…” apart from giving thanks, we are asking to be blessed.

what you mentioned above, i have also heard from an exorcist who gave a talk via youtube.

i guess my question falls under the category of spiritual warfare. like Thom18 said, i do understand too that selling blessed catholic items, makes the blessing invalid when sold. when the article says ‘blessed by a priest and shaman,’ i highly doubt they mean catholic priests…and aren’t shaman considered witches?

oh well…i guess few are concerned about this kind of matters.

I am familiar with these bracelets…they have questionable jewlery charms attached. The new line is called summer goddesses.they use perhaps benign but wierd symbols. Some invoke and enhance individual godess power etc.

They also have charms of Jesus and Mary, but this line of charms is called holy helpers and grouped in with buddha. This would be a clue that these items are a bit off.

So with that, I would not buy them, or have them blessed.

Things that are cursed also comes from someone who wishes evil on you and gives u something.
