Do you pray more to our Blessed Virgin Mary than our King Jesus? POLL

Excellent analogy. I am one of those who prays more to Mary for precisely this reason. A dear friend of mine, a former Pentecostal who converted to Catholicism several years ago, prefers praying to the saints as he finds them more approachable. He does not neglect direct prayers to God, yet feels that since the saints were fellow sinners who struggled with concupiscence, he has a rapport with them that helps him to pray.

Do you pray more to our Blessed Virgin Mary than our King Jesus?
@EvangelistVictor , you ask , “Do you pray more to our Blessed Virgin Mary than our King Jesus?”

I pray to the Virgin Mary each day .

But “prayer” to the Virgin Mary , who is a creature , is on a completely different level to that of “prayer” to Father , Son and Holy Spirit , who are God .

With full respect for my mother Mary , I have no hesitation in saying that she needs to be kept in her place .

As the Fathers of the Second Council of the Vatican taught with regard to Mary , " For no creature could ever be counted as equal with the Incarnate Word and Redeemer. Just as the priesthood of Christ is shared in various ways both by the ministers and by the faithful, and as the one goodness of God is really communicated in different ways to His creatures, so also the unique mediation of the Redeemer does not exclude but rather gives rise to a manifold cooperation which is but a sharing in this one source.

"The Church does not hesitate to profess this subordinate role of Mary. It knows it through unfailing experience of it and commends it to the hearts of the faithful, so that encouraged by this maternal help they may the more intimately adhere to the Mediator and Redeemer.

"This most Holy Synod deliberately teaches this Catholic doctrine (the cult of the Virgin Mary) and at the same time admonishes all the sons of the Church that the cult, especially the liturgical cult, of the Blessed Virgin, be generously fostered, and the practices and exercises of piety, recommended by the magisterium of the Church toward her in the course of centuries be made of great moment, and those decrees, which have been given in the early days regarding the cult of images of Christ, the Blessed Virgin and the saints, be religiously observed. But it exhorts theologians and preachers of the divine word to abstain zealously both from all gross exaggerations as well as from petty narrow-mindedness in considering the singular dignity of the Mother of God. Following the study of Sacred Scripture, the Holy Fathers, the doctors and liturgy of the Church, and under the guidance of the Church’s magisterium, let them rightly illustrate the duties and privileges of the Blessed Virgin which always look to Christ, the source of all truth, sanctity and piety. "

Interesting question, I’m actually not sure how to quantify that. I pray the rosary every day so there’s a lot of Hail Marys – technically the greatest number, a specific time of the day. But informal prayer and conversations I hold other throughout the rest of the day otherwise are generally to God – Father, Son, Holy Spirit. Eucharistic adoration once a week, that is entirely, directly to Jesus, right in front of me, for two hours.

Ideally I’d like to be able to pray the Divine Office throughout the day as well, that’s a goal I’m going for, anyway. I think that is a great devotion for any Protestant/Evangelicals interested in Catholicism or newly converted but not quite used to Catholic prayer or comfortable with the rosary, since so much of the Divine Office is from the bible. Plus you’re praying with the entire Church.

Every time to pray for Mary’s intercession you are still praying to Jesus.

Just like asking someone to go to the doctor with you and explain your condition, you are still seeing the doctor.

She perfects my prayers and makes them more acceptable to Him
This is something I cannot understand. Jesus is GOD. He knows your heart and everything else. How can any other “entity” make Him understand or think differently about anything including a prayer? “More acceptable” is taking away His understanding in the first place away. It’s not like the person who prayed changed. So why would God change?

No.Jesus instructs us to behold our Mother. The person does not change, God does not change, it’s our petition to Jesus which is made more perfect.
Mary is the Mother of God. If the ground Jesus walked on is called Holy ground, think about how Holy Our Blessed Mother is. She is closest to Jesus.

This is just the tip of the iceberg.
God Bless you.🌸

i find it much more comfortable to pray “through” Mary to Jesus

than to pray to “King Jesus” ( a title i am not wholly on-board with)

that works for me…

Maybe a tip of the iceberg but still not answering the question? How can something be made more perfect to a GOD who knows everything by whatever means? Any and any BUT in that question puts a question on God.

Others have covered it well. Even a prayer to Mary is a prayer to Jesus. She can do nothing but for the grace of God. She was human just as we are though full of grace, free from sin, and very highly favored.

Keep reading and studying, Victor. 🙂

Just a note: if you pray to God the Son only, God the Father and God the Holy Ghost, it’s not as of your aren’t giving enough glory to the latter two; when one person of the Trinity is glorified, they’re all glorified.

I AGREE

But Mary is not part of that Trinity! Which again begs the question why this is even asked?

Not even taking the “responses” into account!

Well, one thing to keep in mind is that Mary is the quickest and surest way to Jesus.

I think praying more to Jesus Christ is way better. You can pray to many other saints but I think you should concentrate on Jesus Christ. That’s what I think.

“Mary is the safest, easiest, shortest, and most perfect way of approaching Jesus.” St. Louis de Montfort.
