I was not sure where this discussion would best fit…I just posted here.

I am wanting to join the Coalition for Life in our community and commit to an hour of prayer (per week) outside an abortion clinic. I feel called to do this. By the same token, I feel uneasiness, perhaps, even nervousness. I am not sure what to attribute those feelings to…perhaps, the unkown and the possibility of persecution or ridicule. I realize that I just have to die to the flesh…those are all earthly concerns. So, please share what this experience is like. Hearing from others may assuage my concerns. What is it like? Do you feel that your prayers and visibility make a difference. Has it helped you in your walk with Christ?

God Bless,
Miranda

Personally I went through all those feelings when I first started praying at a clinic. In my experience nothing has ever happen. On the contrary I have had a number of great experiences. From people on the street saying God Bless to this one occation a couple of men who escorted a woman into the clinic and then came out to pray with me.

I know it helps to pray. I wish I could explain it.

One peice of advise don’t go alone.
BTW I’m in LA

God Bless,
John Anthony

Hi “Miraluna” I will pray for you. God bless you.

The closest I’ve come, is participation in a diocese sponsored “Life Chain”, when I was still living in Los Angeles. It was a little bit scary, yes. And some of the people driving by in cars, did jeer at us. But there were also many who honked their horns in SUPPORT of Life.

The best thing about it, is knowing that perhaps a young lady… on her way IN to the clinic… might stop, and wonder about you and those praying outside. You never know, how many of them… will change their minds, and walk away.

Be strong! You’re doing God’s work.👍

all of the things that you are feeling is basically what it is like. there is an added dimension of knowing that a child will die behind a wall that you cannot get through and the mother’s life and spirituality is going to be forver changed. it is a very helpless feeling, and so the best thing you can do is pray. very hard to see this sort of thing when you realize what is going on, the ridicule and persection don’t even come into your thoughts when you know someone is going to die. very sad

I have and outside “hell pizzas” and others as well but in the past.

No, I think that there is a problem with the pro-life movement in the priorities. Will elaborate later. (I am obviously pro-life.)

I’ve done this for the first time about 6 weeks ago. I was incredibly nervous, as I am not a person who likes to be noticed in public. However, I did ok as I went with a group of “experienced” people who have done this several times before. Also, we had a priest from “Priests for Life,” and so this newbie was surrounded by experienced people. We said the rosary outside of the abortion clinic. The experienced people showed us where we could/couldn’t stand, etc. No one gave us any trouble, and when one person who drove by and shouted “pro choice!” the lady next to me just looked at the car and said “bless you.” And she said it like she meant it, too.

So my advice? Go with experienced people, and go in a group if possible. That will give you some courage and they will hopefully give you some support, too.

Good luck and God Bless.

Fr. Groschel told an amusing story of his experience, praying outside of an abortion clinic in New York City. As he and his fellow Franciscan brothers were praying, across the street there was a pro-choice group of women, carrying signs and yelling at the brothers. Well, after the rosary was done it was getting late and so, the brothers started walking home. Suspicious of their motives, the pro-choice group followed them and as they did so, they where led into one of the poor sections of New York, where things are not so safe, and it was getting dark. The women from the pro-choice group felt they had been tricked, and demanded that the brothers explain why they had led them to this part of town. The brothers merely explained, “we live here,” and pointed to their house. They invited the pro-choice women into their home, and gave them some tea and cookies. They got to talk to them, and then the brothers escorted them out of that area and back to safety.

I’ve heard that story before, and I love it!

Plus he makes everyone kneel for Communion. And he does processions on top of a car.

And apparently has an ipod.

I did this past winter during the 30 days for life. It was 24/7 prayer at a local clinic. I was there in the evening after work, when the clinic was closed.

One evening we walked around the clinic property, around the perimeter, from the front that faced a main road, and around the back where parking and dumpsters were located in a sort of alley way.

My friend and I both reached out and touched those dumpsters as we passed them, praying as we walked by. About a week later the remains of dead babies were found in those dumpsters. 😦

The impact of this hit me like a ton of bricks. We had no idea what could be in those dumpsters, and I don’t think either of us really thought that much about it, other than the fact that we know these places sometimes do this. It was a life changing moment for me - I could never ever be anything but 100% pro-life (not that there was a question before, this just sealed it for me).

I will do this again this year. Though I don’t know if I’m up to sidewalk counseling just yet - that would take some training first before I felt ready to do that. But I could indeed see myself doing that at some point in the future.

God Bless you in this calling!

Thank you for your responses. This is much bigger than I ever thought. I realize that I have to be there. I am going to do the sidewalk couseling training and prayer…it is the very least I can do. I will keep reading these posts. May all these children have a special place in Heaven. And may God have mercy on thier mothers and fathers, for they “know” not what they do.

what is a hell pizza???
Sorry about that. You might know the MacDonalds, or KFC, or Burger KIng. Well Hell Pizza’s are like that, but in New Zealand.
It is very satanic because they advertise very loose women, sexual points, straight forwardly talk about satin cursing you taking you to hell.
Make sense why I pray?
