Just curious , and not looking for an argument. Do you prefer the Mass of Plus V or the Mass of Paul Vl?
I personally like both. I enjoy the Liturgy of the Eucharist more in the EF. I feel it is far more reverent. However I do like the Liturgy of the Word more in the OF as much more Sacred Scripture is read.

EF personally. But the main reason being the music.

I like the silence in the EF, and I prefer the chanting over your standard hymns.

If there was an OF I could go to that had less singing and more silence I’d go.

No particular preference. I enjoy both. They are different, but both are The Mass.

I enjoy the Pauline Mass as much as the Byzantine Rite Liturgy.

Unfortunately, I’ve never had the opportunity to enjoy a Tridentine Mass - seen many videos, but never experienced in person.

I want to experience one in the near future very badly.

OF for sure.

It’s in English.
I’m also the Music Director, so I choose the music. And yes, we do sing in Latin sometimes.
But I prefer to pray and hear the Mass in English. Or Spanish. Something native to me.

EF, but I get far less out of it without a side by side Missal… So without a missal, I would go with a traditionally minded, ad orientem, latin chant smells and bells OF.

I find that I can’t pray while attending an OF mass; the music and constant responses are very distracting. Interiorly, I feel as though I am just going through the motions.

I like the EF mass because I can talk to Jesus easily and really recognize His presence there.

This is why I prefer passive participation to active participation; it is easier to look inside myself for Jesus.

I grew up with the TLM and have not attended since the Mass of Paul VI became the norm.

However, I have attended the Novus Ordo said in Latin, at the local Benedictine Monastery. They celebrate the Mass with Latin parts throughout the week, except on Thursday, when the entire Mass, except the homily, is said in Latin.

Despite having a Missal with Latin on one side and English on the other, I prefer the OF Mass in the English.

I like both, esp when both are done reverently.

When the Ordinary Form uses incense, a little Latin, & sings antiphons during mass instead of hymns - it can be far more powerful than an Extraordinary Form of the Mass.

Our Cathedral does a great job with the Ordinary Form, and they do a great job with the Extraordinary Form when they have it for Holy Days and special feasts.

OF. Music not an issue for me, I go to Mass at a Benedictine abbey. Mass is in Gregorian chant, in the OF. Readings, prayers in French plainchant, homily in French (French is the local vernacular). Perfect mix of modern and tradition.

If my parish had both I would probably go to both. If I had to pick one I would pick EF as just a personal preference.

If it’s not a Solemn High Mass, you may or may not feel the EF Mass is worth your time.

It’s best to select a Solemn High Mass for your first time. 🙂

they are all the Extraordinary Form of the Mass.

At a High Mass, it is chanted & sung.
A Low Mass is spoken, and may lack deacons. Though sometimes a Low Mass may have some hymns.

A “Solemn High Mass” is a High Mass where they use all the bells and whistles. Usually on a major feast.

There was a Solemn Pontifical High Mass celebrated at a local FSSP Parish by my Diocesan Bishop on Epiphany.

I was quite upset I couldn’t make it.

I wish the Extraordinary Form of the Mass was used more widely.

The official terms are Missa Lecta, Missa Cantata, and Missa Solemnis. If the Solemn Mass is celebrated by a bishop it is a Pontifical Solemn Mass, the most solemn form of Mass according to Bishop Sample.

ahhhh!

I’ve been to one Solemn Pontifical High Mass (almost went to another). They are very rare and super awesome to witness.

The one I attended back in Sept was broadcasted live on ETWN.

You respond silently in your heart or in a very quiet whisper.

If you shouted the response like some people do in the OF you would get some very dirty looks, or even asked to leave.
