I do. I say a prayer before I go in, and before the prayer, I think about the sins Iam going to confess, say a perfect act of contrition and after I get absloved, I again say the act of contrition and do my penance.

Pretty much the same here.

I think about my sins (basically rehashing my near-daily exams of conscience). Think about just WHY they’re wrong. Say a short prayer (and maybe something longer as well, like Psalm 51 if I’m feeling particularly guiltwracked)

Prayer of thanksgiving after Confession for having received the sacrament and my penance 😃 Sure feel good afterwards 😉

I try to observe the five rules for making a valid confession (as explained in the Baltimore Catechism). One must:
  1. Make a thorough examination of conscience;
  2. Excite sincere sorrow for their sins (perhaps by meditating on the Passion);
  3. Have a firm purpose of not committing such sins again;
  4. Confess the sins to the priest;
  5. Be willing to do the penance he gives.
🙂

I begin several days before thinking of sins, i go over this numerous times a day. When it time to go to confession I’ll go in early (at parish confession I’ll go a half hour before confessions start) and read morning or evening prayers in the Magnificat and pray an Our Father while focusing on the crucifix.

I try to get there one hour before the start time, not to fight the crowds or find a parking space, but to say the Rosary and Chaplet of Divine Mercy and spend some time with the Lord. I also prepare a list (getting old and very forgetful) before I depart for confession. I also try to meditate on why I committed the sins. This aids in the discussion with the priest, especially sins of attachment. God Bless

I use the Prayers before Confession, Examination of Conscience and Affections and Resolutions before Confession found in my Baronius 1962 Missal.

Sometimes I use the Examination of Conscience found in the Handbook of Prayer and at other times I use the 7 Penitential Psalms found in my Monastic Diurnal. (Psalm 6, 31, 37, 50, 101, 129, 142; using the Greek numbering)

A thorough examination of conscience and a time of prayer and reflection beforehand. Act of Contrition, perform penance and a bit more meditation afterwards.

Something that can help a lot is taking a little time every day at the end of the day to make a small examination of conscience. This helps keep track of things (and weekly confession helps so you don’t forget).
