Do You Read The Bible?

I read the Scriptures almost daily as I like to meditate & further reflect on the Mass readings for the day.šŸ™‚
 
A little reminder that I should probably do this moreā€¦

Funny, but I used to read the bible in times of deep spiritual distress when I was away from the Church. My favorite was Lukeā€™s Gospel, esp. Chapter 12 and the ā€œlilies of the fieldā€ passage.

We attend daily Mass, so I feel I am getting enough Scripture between the reading, psalms, and Gospel there. Sometimes, I will go back and reread a passage I heard at Mass for contemplation, but more often then not, I go back because something has struck an apologetic note with me, and I have to hurry and underline it before I forget šŸ˜‰ (I have a brother who is a Baptist minister; always loading my arsenol!)

At our parish, we are currently watching Scott Hahnā€™s ā€œThe Lambā€™s Supper,ā€ which deals with the book of Revelations. Great Stuff! šŸ‘ Every sessions is full of WOW! I bring my bible and underline stuff then, too.
 
Anyone know where I can purchase a ā€œpocketā€ Old Testament online? I carry my New Testament in my bookbag at UCF and I read from it during lunch.
 
Whether a little or a lot, those few moments of being at peace with God in His Word are a great comfort to me in my daily walk. And then there are those times when Iā€™m upset and sad that just holding His Word in my hands gives comfort. :o I NEED to be as close to Jesus as I can get and using the Bible for this very reason has kept me reading many a night when Iā€™d rather just turn the light off and go to sleep!

When I consider how many words cross in front of my eyes each day, I have a hard time not allowing some of them to be from Him.

I am blessed to live in the Twin Cities (Mpls./St. Paul) area, and we are increasingly surrounded by great Catholic Scripture Studies, with very orthodox materials.

Our biggest event is managed by Jeff Cavins, (of EWTN fame), who this year taught 500 people in my southwest area and 900 in a parish on the other side of the metropolitan area. He expects to double that number next year. Meanwhile, his tapes and materials are used by many parish groups. He will have more material coming out soon, but his Time Line Series is a must. It gives an overview of the entire Bible, to which later classes on individual books can fill in. Nothing beats having an allover picture.

He is a revert, having spent about a dozen years as an evangelical minister.

Usually at night before bed. Always in times of stress. The binding is taped up and the pages are worn. My Bible travels everywhere with me. Itā€™s been across the country and across the Atlantic Ocean!
 
I read the bible on a daily basis. Each evening at dinner we read and discuss the daily scriptures along with the meditations from ā€œThe Word Among Usā€ wau.org/current/default.asp. I also carry a pocket KJV that I read throughout the day. Reading scripture before daily mass really helps prepare the mind.
 
I read the Scripture twice daily, as part of morning & evening prayer. On Saturdays and sometimes in the evening I read additional passages. Right know I am working on Romans, my wife jsut finished Exodus. Sheā€™s more linear than I am. All this outside of Mass.

I do my best to read passages every night. I realized a short while ago that after all of my years of college and studying programming that I really knew very little about the most important subject of all. I am currently working on reading the Bible the first time through. I am using a ā€œread the Bible in a yearā€ guide to help pace myself. I am currently near the end of Acts, and I keep thinking to myself what an exciting time that must have been!

I have a similar experience to Lonevoice. I feel an overwhelming sense of calm when I am engaged in daily Bible reading, and my stress level is almost non-existent. It is crazy how quickly stress starts to creep back into my life if I even miss a couple of days of reading.
 
Unfortunately I am a once-a-weeker (notice it makes me weaker). I wish that I would take the time to be more regular in my prayers but I am not. I do reflect on passasges during the week, but I know that I do not do this enough in my life. How lucky you are if you do read the Bible daily. I envy you!
 
Yes, I read the bible almost daily. The weekends are hard for me, though as I like to have quiet time to spend in Godā€™s Word. Itā€™s been tough this past week, as I donā€™t have my Magnificat (which I use to guide me, I havenā€™t gotten my July issue!). In it, it gives little snippets of scripture and instead of just reading the few lines in the bible, I read the whole chapter. I have found great joy in learning about Our Lord in His Holy Word. I like to spend about an hour in my morning readings. Itā€™s a great way to begin my day and thing just donā€™t seem ā€œrightā€ when I skip my quiet time.
 
I read it for about an hour a couple of times a week. I read it more before I started reading and posting here, maybe I should reverse the time I spend here and reading the Bible.
 
Divine Office and Lectio Divina. I have just opened it at random and read. Sometimes I think the Holy Spirit prompts me to a certain verse He wants me to read.
 
Iā€™m in process of reading the Bible (cover to cover) for the third time. Iā€™ll then go and read the Catechism (cover to cover) again.

It is good to read up on the faith. šŸ™‚

Ascension Press has some wonderful aids for Bible reading. I highly recommend them. Jeff Cavins is one of the owners and Publishers so the materials are outstanding.

I responded that I pick up and read my Bible about once per week. But in reality I usually do multiple times per day. I read the Liturgy of the Hours at least morning and evening prayer, go to Mass daily and receive the daily readings and also I am pretty consistent in praying the daily rosary.

So although I may only formally open my actual Bible once per week or so I am truly getting the Bible pretty regularly.

Ignorance of the Bible is ignorance of Christ- Saint Jerome.

I read the daily Byzantine lectionary, plus in addition I have a pocket Confraternity New Testament that I read daily readings from, and go through the NT twice a year. I read using those two sources every day. I read more when I can.
