Do you say grace in restaurants?

We do not. I am one of these people that worries about making others uncomfortable. Also, I don’t like to draw attention to myself. If we are out on some Church outing and in a restaurant then I wouldn’t mind. I can’t explain why.

I’m the same way, about being afraid of “embarrassing” anyone around me, and/or drawing attention to myself.

But yes, I do say grace at restaurants; I make a small sign of the cross and say silently, “Bless Us, O Lord, and Thee Thy Gifts Which I/We are about to receive from your Bounty, through Christ our Lord. Amen.” I make a closing sign of the cross then eat. I feel much worse not praying (being grateful for the food put before me) than having a stranger watching me pray in public.

It’s not easy sometimes, especially if I’m in a crowded place. I do it as discreet as possible.

It’s sad that we have to hide prayers like that, isn’t it?

I wish I have the courage to do so. Deep down, I’m more worried about having an outward appearance of piety.

Always openly, making the sign of the cross oftentimes.
I’m lucky to be in a country where the Angelus is broadcasted over the PR system at 12nn and 6pm in a lot of malls, department store, hospitals and other public places. The 3 o’clock prayer is also said, even broadcasted on TV and over the radio.
Whenever the public transportation (which we call jeepney) passes by a church, not a few people openly make the sign of the cross to acknowledge the Lord’s Real Presence.
