Do you say grace in restaurants?

Yes, always. I don’t see why one would act differently in public than in private.

Yes.

Have you ever taken a half dozen big huge teenage boys (give or take - I think there were actually 8 of them) to a fast-food place and led them in praying “Bless Us Oh Lord,” standing and out loud, with the sign of the cross both before and after?

It’s a terrific experience - the whole place goes quiet. 😃

Our family prays at every meal. In or out it doesn’t matter.

jmcrae, that’s wonderful. I can only imagine what that would be like. I don’t know eight people who pray before meals (At least noticeably).

How many here pray after meals? I normally forget somehow but I do it when I remember.

I’m their “mean” Catechism teacher. 😃 I took them out to do some service work at a homeless shelter as a class outing one time, and afterwards, we went to a fast-food place to give them lunch.

I don’t know whether these kids would have done this on their own, but I have got them trained so that all I have to do is give the biggest one a small hand signal, and they all do as I want them to do - in this case, stand up and pray a table grace together.

I think they feel “safer” about doing that kind of thing when I’m telling them to do it. They are at the stage where “Teacher made us do it,” is good enough for anyone who might think they’re goofy for doing religious stuff.

I often forget to do it, too - and when I do remember, I can’t remember how that one goes. :o
 
My mother told me, “You have to make the Sign of the Cross, even in public.”

I think, it may be the last SOTC I will ever make, so I’d better do it right, not trying to hide it.

Sort of. I haven’t got that standard prayer memorized, so I fall back on reciting the prayer of the green scapular, which I am supposed to do at least once a day anyhow. I had not known about making that sign of the cross before and after prayers…😦 😦 😦 those RCIA classes don’t teach squat about that sort of thing …but now that I know about, I’ll do that as well.🙂

I also have the Fatima Rosary prayer (with the extra sentence for the souls of Purgatory) down pat, so maybe I should use that as well?

I hadn’t known you were supposed to. No mention of this sort of thing in RCIA classes. But thank you for the heads up, and I’ll start doing it:thumbsup:

OK, I’ll keep silent, and see if the facilitator brings this up before 27 May 2007. If she does, I contribute another $50 to The Rosary Army, who distributes these nifty knotted string rosaries, I have one, and it is my favorite
 
We say a quite prayer and make the sign of the cross…
My goal is not to say it to be heard… it’s just to say it…
 
If it is just me and DH, I pray silently. If I am out with kids, we say grace together.

We dont call attention to ourselves (at least i hope we dont) but we always say a blessing before our meal - together!
 
My dh and I cross ourselves, hold hands and pray the blessing. Then we cross ourselves again and eat. No one has ever told us not to or ever made any stink about it–not in all our 22 years together. I believe many think it a good sign that people of faith can feel free to express their faith (in an appropriate way) in a public venue.
