I have a special ability. I see things that no one else in my family sees. Strange things that mysteriously occur in our home like full trash cans, small scraps of trash and papers on the floor, game pieces and toys that no one put away, towels on the floor of the bathroom, clothes scattered where they don’t belong, pots and pans that the person in charge of doing dishes missed…

Are such items possibly invisible to others? I sometimes wonder if I have mystical powers to see things that no one else sees. I wish this special power could be passed along genetically to my offspring…

Well, it is a matter of age when this ability comes into play. Of course there are some who never see these things! I know I am at fault, or maybe more accurately I see them, then get distracted and forget about them!

ha,ha,ha,ha,ha I am laughing sooo hard right now:D:D:D

I think this is called motherhood:thumbsup:its like the perverbial "eyes behind the head kinda thing;)

I have the strange ability to see that a 3 year old needs a walk in the garden and the trash can wait. I see that a baby needs a hug and the laundry can wait until bedtime. I see a game to be played as childhood rushes by so fast that you cannot believe it. I see an experience to be shared with a teenager so as to build a relationship that can help them through those trying years.

“My house was clean” is a horrible epitaph to have.

I don’t care if you like to clean, that’s your perogitive. Just don’t claim it’s a super power.

I’m not sure she was saying the cleanliness comes before people. It is a false dicotomy to say that being ordinarily neat and being a good parent are opposed. It is perfectly possible to be attentive to your kids, creative, and fun and still have a neat house. I don’t think though that white upholstrey or carpets fits in that equation though. 😛

I think if you stop using this ability for a while you will find that other people in your family have it too 😃

I agree with you; I just disagree that people who demand others attain their standards of cleanliness perfection are morally superior. I’m sensitive to this as my household is used to this type of roughshod treatment. No one may releax, unwind, enjoy themselves, even do their own chorse until the god of clean has been appeased. Woe until he or she who fails to pick up that scrap or leaves a piece of clothing unfolded. The punishment is both immediate and overwhelming.

Just once I’d like to get in a car without having the trash police scour it for signs of mess.

It can crush the spirit of a household and is emotional abuse in my book.

I am very sorry for your situation. I will pray for you.

However, it is clear to me that the OP meant this thread in a light-hearted manner. Based on other posts of hers, she is not the ‘god of clean’.

I wish this special power could be passed along genetically to my offspring…
It just might, Gardens. It didn’t show up for me until I became a mom. 😃 When I was living with my folks, lots of things went unnoticed. :o And now, when I visit my parents, I do household stuff for them that they didn’t even notice to do.

:rotfl:

hahahahahahahahahaha!!! I share your special ability. My husband and sister don’t seem to have this ability, though, and I wish I could give it to them.

Had a good talk with them about his recently. My husband, who makes me laugh constantly, said that when he and my sister walks by something on the kitchen table or whatever it is that shouldn’t be there or should be taken out, it just doesn’t occur to them to pick it up and put it in its proper place. They see dishes in the sink that need to be cleaned or throw their clothes on the floor, yet, it doesn’t look like a mess to them. They look at it and it looks fine. When I see it, apparently, the object or the out-of-place thing is literally insulting me. So, that is apparently the difference between me and them.

I tried doing this, especially with dirty laundry constantly strewn all over the floor. It just stays there for weeks on end and gets walked over as if it isn’t even there. I even tried piling it all up in a huge pile so that it would be glaring at them. Still, no go. I guess it just doesn’t “insult” them like it does me. hahahaha!

I’ve just learned that there are differences and what they’re strong in is definitely not picking up or cleaning after themselves. Although, I must say, pregnancy has helped a bit. Since I’ve been pregnant, they are more helpful.

Gardens,
I have this ability too!!! I thought I was alone in the world and now I saw this post, I am so happy that there are others out there!!
My ability also extends to things laying on the floor that others (besides DH…he is exempt from this one) seem to walk all over. If you have this special gift, you know what I am talking about. It’s an item on the floor that others in your family think is just part of the floor so they step on it.
There is hope though gardens…I too was like this once…according to my mother:o but it is an acquired power. Not genetic but have hope.

Thanks for this post…I needed a good chuckle today.

While it’s nice not to be all alone, I’m not entirely sure that I’m happy to learn how many others of you have this same ability. We might encounter unannounced guests and visitors who have it. :bigyikes:

Yes, fully intended in a light hearted manner. My feeble attempt to use humor as a way to save my sanity, (which I lost amid the rubble earlier today.) Yet, I’m a bit dissappointed that Mrs. Sally can easily recognize that I am not the “god of clean.” Oh well. Maybe she’s just really well catechised.

I am guessing this is your kids you’re talking about? Well, once they ran out of clothing to wear to school or to go out with their friends they’d have no choice but to do laundry. I bet they wouldn’t want to look dirty and smelly in front of their friends.

If they are really filthy and leave it lying around your house, you can always pick it up, but instead of washing it donate it to goodwill or simply put it in a giant garbage bag and into the garage.

They will use you if they can !

:rotfl: This was too funny! Glad to know I’m not the only one out there with this magical ability!

No, unfortunately, this is my husband we’re talking about. I got that idea from some family members, so tried it for a couple of months. He did eventually start washing his clothes once he ran out, but it made me crazy leaving a pile of dirty laundry on the floor for weeks on end. For my own sanity I started picking up again.

We’re expecting our first (a girl) in December. I hope that I can pass on our special ability to her. hahaha! But like, I said, he and my sister, who lives with us, have both begun to help me much more since I’ve been pregnant. My pregnancy hormones had me explode a few times (unlike me) which was a little scary. haha! It was kind of a wake-up call to the two of them.

I don’t want to make it seem like my husband is a lout. He definitely isn’t. Keeping things uncluttered is not one of his fortes, unfortunately. And I’m the type that keeps things color-coded, ordered according to style of clothes, book size, genre, etc., and I do enjoy putting things in order, so I know that I’m probably more over-the-top about these things than most.

WOW! My wife has these same powers! I’ve been trying to hone mine but keep missing things

Not only do I wish this ability could be passed on genetically… I also wish it could be passed along by marriage. But I suppose if it hasn’t happened in 24 years then it isn’t likely to happen at all…

DH does seem to have the ability to occasionally see things that *** I *** leave out so perhaps the problem is that touch makes things invisible to one’s own eyes.
