Do you still wear your engagement ring?

You left out one possible response to your poll: “I never had one”.

When I married during the Korean War, my husband and I were just out of school, and he was a private in the army, making an enormous $112 a month–we could barely afford $8 for a plain gold wedding band…😃
:o Sorry…very sorry. I like plain bands best. 🙂 That’s what mine is. We didn’t have much to spend for the rings OR wedding. We didn’t have a reception or take a honeymoon. We bought my engagement ring at a going out of buisness sale. It was about $200. The wedding bands were $150 a piece. In today’s world I get CRAZY looks for our combined $500 set. But I could care less. Like I said…I think engagement rings (especially today’s) look flashy anyhow. People used to be happy with plain.

The rings don’t make the marriage…if they did…hollywood people wouldn’t be on husband/wife # 4, 5, 6, etc! 👍

But, on the other hand, I know they are very meaningful to those who have them. And that’s why they wear them.

I always wear mine, but then again, it’s a set and they are welded together 😃 My wedding band is a wrap with (small) emeralds and diamonds and the engagement ring is a square cut (I think it’s called Princess) solitaire. I don’t wear much jewelry at all, just my wedding ring, and rarely take it off. (Though, with 3 1/2 weeks left in this pregnancy, I’m not sure I could get it off very easily. I should have already removed it, but forgot. In late pregnancy I usually wear it on a chain around my neck.)

My wife always wears hers, it just seems to belong right there next to the wedding ring. It is a wedding ring (or it was) from her family and I had some prongs stuck on to hold the stone.

I normally always wear my ring but I burned my hands a while back and haven’t put it back on yet.

Those are the most special. We still have my great aunts wedding rings and they are beautiful. However, she was VERY tiny and several sizes smaller than anyone. They were that antique look and would have cost nearly the price of a new one to resize.

I actually just prayed for you today. I hope you are healing some! God bless you and keep you. I will never forget what you did for my grandmother Lois. She has passed on now, by the way. It was a painful death, so we are glad she is pain free now. 🙂

Wow…that sounds beautiful. I was going to weld mine, but I am glad I didn’t. I like the option. But many rings (sets) actually look better welded. It was like they were supposed to be that way originally. :hmmm: 😃

Thanks. I have had many prayers and I am healing very well. It’s been a month and I think I can go swimming this weekend. 🙂 I still pray for Lois every day. I really have no more pain to offer up, just compression dressings and itching.

**Hello Everyone! 👋 **

**Ever since I was married almost 16 months ago, I have worn my engagement ring less and less. It gets in my way, gets caught in/on things, I have injured myself more than once, and always fear injuring others. Other times I just feel plain flashy with it, the wedding band is more plain and simple like me. So, ****I basically don’t wear it anymore at all, save maybe the most special of occasions. **

**I realize I am MARRIED now, no longer engaged. It is not needed to show that I belong to someone anymore. So, I just wear my wedding band and that I NEVER take off! Never ever! :nope: My husband is fine with this, as long as I wear my wedding band, he could care less. **

**I am wondering what other women do. What is your personal preference? **

**Thanks! God bless you! 🙂 **
Always. Not when doing the dishes…but it’s part of me when I get dressed in the mornings. I take it off when I go to bed, so it doesn’t snag on the sheets. But…other than that…always.🙂

That’s pain enough. You are a great follower of Jesus. I hope if I ever suffer so much I can be as saintly about it as you. You are an inspiration. Prayers for continued healing. And thanks for continuing to keep Lois in yours! God bless you! 🙂

Cool. That’s great that you keep it on all the time. I can’t say as I do. :o It never grew on me like my husband did. 😉 It is just not comfy to have an extension on my finger. 🤷 My wedding band is so form fitting, I don’t even feel it. Also, it still fits in the tightest of spaces, and my hand never gets caught. It’s the best find we ever made!

my band is a little loose…I’m afraid if my ring isn’t against it…I might lose it…:o but, I also like wearing it.

Isn’t it funny how that works. When my hands are in a shrunken state (which isn’t often) I HAVE to wear the engagement ring or nothing at all. It just slides right off. :o

I always wear my engagement ring because we used it as my wedding ring as well. It’s an antique looking ring with lots of scroll work engravings with a princess solitare. DH thought it would look unbalanced with another ring next to it, so I took it off and we used it for my wedding ring at our wedding. So, I go around looking like maybe I’m just engaged. I’ve looked into getting an inexpensive band in case we ever travel abroad or something. Oh, I take it off when I lift weights so the band won’t get scratched, or things like that, but usually I have it on.

Nah…probably not. I mean so many people don’t even wear rings. Oh…right…so many people live together for life…but skip the whole wedding and vows part.

You’re fine. I bet its a beauty! 🙂

Mine is part of a set…after marriage I had them soddered (sp?) together at one pt at the bottom.

My wife wears her’s most of the time. The only time she takes it off is if she is doing physical labor where she would be afraid to damage the ring or lose it. And off course at night she takes is off.

I never wear my engagement ring. The short story is that we went through a very very difficult time in our marriage. Things that happened in the past that made me think “lies” everytime I looked at my rings.

After going through Retrouvaille and getting through the worst of it (in which time I didn’t wear any rings) we decided to get new ones to symbolize our recommitment and the “refining fire” our marriage passed through. We couldn’t afford an engagement ring so I don’t have one. Maybe in a few years, but I hesitate because I’m more comfortable with just the wedding band and it seems like an excessive luxury at this point.

Here’s a picture of my rings:

I voted for “sometimes”. My engagement ring is a large black diamond set in a cathedral setting, and since it sits up high and the band is wide, it does tend to get in the way. My diamond wedding bands are more comfortable alone for most of the time, and especially since I spend all day on the computer, and I can’t stand it when the large diamond flips around backward when I hands get cold in the air conditioning.

I’ll try to post a photo here - not sure how good it is:

WOW! These are beautiful rings. It’s so lovely that engagement rings today are going beyond just diamonds. I like that other precious stones are used too. I am one for color. I told my husband if he ever gets me another one (like for 25th) to get me something colorful. I’d rather have a small stone of color, than a huge rock of diamond.

Hmmm…maybe I am a little anit-diamond? I guess I never did understand why the sharpest most dangerous, least colorful stone was most comonly used? There is so much more appealing to me.

Does that make sense? :o
