Pretty much the only time I see vitamins/supplements mentioned here is when discussing pregnancy and prenatal vitamins. Am I the only one who takes them even when not pregnant? I take a high potency B vitamin, zinc, omega oil capsules, and vitamin C pretty regularly. I also drink protein shakes. I know there are lots of health conscious and crunchy people here… what do you take?

I take what is prescribed and nothing that is not prescribed, and check out any new supp w/md first (and research heavily).
OTCs in prescribed dosages
multi vita/mineral made for diabetics
calcium+magnesium+zinc
B complex for heart patients
CO-Q10 (because I am on cholesterol and high blood pressure Rx which deplete this enzyme)
milk thistle (to protect liver from Rx metabolized in the liver)

purified fish oil 1000
100 mg vitamin E w/the fish oil (have been warned not to take them separately)

Remifemin (black cohosh combo for menopause)

green tea I drink daily, + 3 oz dark chocolate per week (yeah it’s tough but hey gotta do it)

ground flaxseed w/nopal, but no more than 1T per day, mixed in veggie juice

I also time my meds and supplements as suggested by MD

ghiradelli is best but dove will do if it’s all you can get

is that your official prescription Dr.Annie?:D:p

I actually prefer organic dark when i can get it… Cocoa Camino is good (they also make a yummy dark hot chocolate powder) as well as another brand that slips my mind right now.

I haven’t been pg for years. But I still take my prenates! They’re the best I can find. And they’re pink!😛

I too take my prenatal vitamin even when not pregnant. You should really be taking prenatal vitamins before you get pregnant anyway. In addition, I take a calcium supplement as well as a fish oil supplement.

I take one childrens chewable vitamin every morning, because they taste good. 🙂 I also take iron every day, because without it my iron count is too low to donate blood.

Just wondering…Can you tell us why the vitamin E needs to be taken with the fish oil? Also how do you get your flaxseed ground up enough not to float to the top of your juice? I have to mix it in my oatmeal, grits or grapenuts in the morning so I can get it all down. 😃

I take a high potency multi vitamin, Omega 3 (by the way, someone mentioned about vitamin e. A good quality will have an equal part of vitamin e mixed in and also be screened for toxins, mercury…ect), vitamin c, biotin, vitamin b complex.

Early in pregnancy I take folic acid.

I’ve recently started taking a calcium/vitamin D supplement. I heard a news story about vitamin D deficiencies in Scotland and that inspired me. Plus, women should just generally take calcium, so since they tend to come combined, that’s what I do.

I do!

I started taking “superfood plus” about two or so years ago, and although it tastes pretty bad (you mix it in with a fruit smoothie, and it’s still kinda rough) it makes you feel great. Not to get graphic, but it is very ‘cleansing,’ as well.😊 Blue green algae has high concentrations of vitamin b and protein–and you can order it here or through amazon:

www.herbdoc.com

I also take ‘ester-c’ a high potency vitamin c and also a separate iron pill every other day.

I take a multivitamin every day. I also take magnesium, vitamins E and C and niacin. I also supplement with B12 as I am vegan. And a vegan joint supplement.

Then I have my prescription meds…because of my lousy family history.

Hey! That sounds great! I try to take vitamins, but most of the ones that have all the stuff I believe I need are huge and I have difficulty swallowing them.

I must look at the children’s ones - and check whether one would be enough or if I should take two. I wish they made chewable ones for adults. Anyone know if they do?

Most of them nowadays have nutritional info for children under 12 and for children over 12 + adults.

Well, let’s see,

I take 1 multi + minerals
flaxseed oil capsules
calcium citrate + D
D (yes, an extra one)
Potassium
Ester-C (1000 mg.)
Magnesium
Glucosamine Chondroitin

I think that is it. All are gluten free (says so on the packaging which makes me :D)

I just added the magnesium because of leg cramps, I am very peri-menopausal and I drink a lot of water so I need to replace some of the water soluble vitamins or minerals.

I also try to eat a banana a day - it used to be all I needed to ward off leg cramps but, again, I am prei-menopausal and that seems to cause some mineral imbalances as well as being on a diuretic.

I don’t. 😊 Supplements are expensive, so I try to get what I need from food. I probably don’t get everything I need all the time, but I tend to eat healthy food and I pay attention to the cravings I get. When I’m a little less broke, I’ll try to get into the vitamins habit.

I take a supplement called Ruby Red, it contains a bunch of
fruits, vitamin B, etc. It’s a powder that you mix with water or
juice and I really like it. So do my daughters. I also take
supplements of minerals one contains iodine (since my one RX is a thyroid supplement), Calcium (with vit.D and magnesium) and
fish oil. Also take wheat germ which I sprinkle on yogurt.
Don’t know what is doing it, but since I have become very faithful
in taking the above, I’ve started to lose weight. Opps I forgot that
I take a supplement for vision.
