I’m not! I’m not! See:

Hail Mary full of grace
the Lord is with thee
Blessed art thou among women
And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus
Holy Mary, Mother of God
Pray for us sinners
Now and at the hour of our death. AMEN!

😃 😃 😃

I take my pocket pc to Mass. I keep several things loaded into it for prayer and reflection before and after Mass, including 2 translations of the bible, the daily readings, daily reflections, and Sunday reading commentaries.
Wow, Crusader is going to have a field day with you. :bigyikes:
Better run for cover… 😃

Keep the faith kiddo. Some folks get a bit too serious on these boards… If someone gives you grief for carrying that bible, just hit them over the head with it. But don’t damage that “snooty” case! 😉

Thanks for lightening things up on this thread, guys. I was about ready to cry at the way they were skewering MGEISING. (((((((((((Hug)))))))))))))

Perhaps the same non-profit that will “certify” Masses can issue Catholic Identity cards to us all, too! 😛

I don’t take mine b/c I am a total reader and would be tempted to have my nose buried in scripture the whole time instead of paying attention to Mass. Scripture would be infinitely more interesting than some of the homilies I’ve heard, lol.

When I had my reversion to the faith, and had just “discovered” the Bible, I attended daily Mass at a Church that didn’t have missalettes. I brought my Bible then to follow the readings. Now I have my own permanent missalette which I love dearly (it is an elegant little Daughters of St Paul “Millenium” edition). I too am very much a “word” person and a devout bibliophile–I just love the feel and look of the written word. My current parish doesn’t even have missalettes.

I prepare a Bible study every week on the Sunday readings so I am already very familiar with them by Sunday, but I just enjoy following along the readings (not to mention the prayers) during Mass.

I saw that thread on “certifying” masses. That was … a unique idea.

I couldn’t figure out the skewering either, but he got himself banned. Is that like being “anathemized” I wonder? :hmmm:

Sad, but too often true around these parts too. 😦

I wish we had an adult bible study in our parish, but it’s difficult generating interest and our pastor doesn’t seem willing to give it a try (I think he has had some bad past experiences with it). I could certainly benefit from it. Time will tell.

And it’s a “dry heat” out there in AZ isn’t it? 😉

Wow!

I just read through this thread, and am taken aback by a few of the comments - glad it worked itself out, though.

I don’t take a bible to Mass, and I don’t encourage people to. I train our lectors at our parish and they come to practice every Saturday before the Sunday liturgies. I encourage them and expect them to proclaim the scriptures well enough that all may hear and understand. We do have missalettes in the pews for those who require or prefer them.

I don’t see anything wrong with taking a bible to Mass, however. My only concern would be for someone who does not participate in the action of the Mass, but instead reads their bible (of course, that can happen with anything, including the missalette).

We have people who spend the mass reading the Bulletin. For them the Bible would be an improvement. 😉

Do you take your bible to Mass and if you don’t - Why Not?
I read down this whole thread. If you feel taking your bible, or a favorite prayer book, or other help causes you to personally get more out of the mass, who am I to get in the way of that. Jesus and the Holy Spirit meet us where we are. I don’t take my bible to mass myself.

I take my missal to daily mass because I like to read the readings, gospel, and biographical and liturgical material about the saint or memorial of the day. The material regarding the saints is not found in the bible. The daily missal helps me to incorporate the seasonality of the church calendar as well as the behavior and philosophy of the various saints into my daily life. Its use provides me with food for reflection of how my own life can be molded to be more of an imitation of Him, as the saints did, each in their own way in their own time.

As far as sacramentals go, I frequently carry several laminated prayer cards in my breast pocket. I always carry the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and usually four or five others as well. I like being able to pull them out throughout the day and offer a prayer through that saint or the Blessed Mother to Christ for his intercession or the grace to do a particular thing in a way that He would have it done. I often use these cards before and during mass, especially after receiving the Lord in the Eucharist. These cards help to remind me of the really important things in life, and who is REALLY the center of the universe.
