I certainly do…they are constantly under attack…In the early church they were all martyred

Some of the nastiest people attacking the popes seem to be catholics, and people that are just mouths in my opinion, like Bill O’ Reilly…

It takes more courage and faith than any of us will ever know. It is the most difficult thing that any human could ever even begin to undertake.

Certainly - Courage and Humility, Patience, Understanding, and Fortitude.

I often think that those who critisize just have no idea who these men really are, or how they come to the papacy. They don’t understand the HUGE weight that bears upon the successor of Peter.
Like unruly Children, some people can only see the Holy Father as someone who makes rules we don’t understand or want to follow. So all they can do is whine, and cry and kick their feet.

Sorry for the vent there.😊

May God Bless and Keep and Guide our Holy Father in all things.

Peace
James

They have to carry the heaviest burden on the face of the Earth. Courage? Yes.

Yeah…I agree, big time. Yes, it does take tremendous courage to be the Pope. Anybody who has the guts to stand out, at the front of an organization that’s two millennia old, over a billion-strong, and opposed to the tyranny and inhumanity that rule so much of the world, is a hero in my book.

O’Reilly…what a gasbag. I get especially sick when watching him surround himself with his crew of good-looking female talking monkeys. He’s such an *egotist. *

Being a Pope is basically trying to rule a country without being able to enforce one’s own laws. The “citizens” must voluntarily practice what you decree.

If it was any other society it wouldn’t last a week.

This thread reminds me of the phrase “there may be a shortage of priests, but there is no shortage of people who want to be Pope!”

All kidding aside, being Pope takes a tremendous amount of courage and a whole lot of grace by God to do it…God Bless Pope Benedict!!!

And consider that the papacy is the hardest job in and of itself–and Pope Benedict XVI followed John Paul II–who will be a tough act to follow.

I have nothing but admiration for him.

I think it takes grace and faith and courage. God supplies the grace, the man who becomes pope steps up with courage to meet Him in faith.

But the same can be said of each of us when living our lives, walking the paths that are set before us. The grace is measured out for the path we have to travel, we have to meet that grace with courage and move forward in faith.

I can’t begin to imagine the burden of responsibility that the Pope carries on his shoulders.

People make fun of our current President, because his speeches aren’t always the best-delivered. But ponder for a moment, the amount of information swimming around in his head at any given moment…and that is for a person leading a country.

Now, ponder all that must weigh on the mind of the man leading God’s Church on Earth.

Makes you wonder how they can endure it sometimes…

I don’t know what O’Reilly said but I think that it takes a lot of courage to be Pope and I also think that it takes a lot of Faith.
I have no complaints about the current Pope.
I can’t figure out what the Pope did that offended him so much.
I’m always looking for something to gripe about and I can’t find one thing bad about the current Pope.
And if it were there, believe me, I would find it!

I certainly agree with what you say here!! It is a huge responsibility.

On the other hand, the Pope has the assurance of the Guidance of the Holy Spirit, thus he should be able to sleep easily (in theory anyway)

Our current President, sadly does not have this assurance.

Peace

Many just hate the Catholic Church and want to bash it as much as possible, on any grounds they can find. The Pope is always a satisfying target, sort of a scapegoat for anti-Catholics, if you will. Our current pope is conservative and German, two facts that naturally offend millions of liberals right off the bat. It’s their problem, not his.
