Do you think Mary likes some Marian devotions less than others?

I have a hard time believing that in Heaven a saint, any saint, would start ranking devotions by what she/he prefers more or less.

But here is the quote I found that prompted me to start the thread and try creating a poll:
St. Claude de la Colombiere, the renowned Jesuit and spiritual director of St. Margaret Mary, gives a point which is enlightening. He said: “Because all the forms of our love for the Blessed Virgin, all its various modes of expression cannot be equally pleasing to Her, and therefore do not assist us in the same degree to Heaven. I say without a moments hesitation that the BROWN SCAPULAR IS THE MOST FAVORED OF ALL!” He also adds: “No devotion has been confirmed by more numerous authentic miracles than the Brown Scapular.”

I hope you’re not trying to get people arguing with each other – that would be very sad. 😦 Based on some of your comments in another thread yesterday, I’m surprised you even care about Marian devotions. 😦

I don’t think Mary likes some “better” than others, because she is the pinnacle of humility and it’s not about her anyway – it’s about leading us to her son. As long as she can help lead us to Jesus, I’m sure she’s fine with whichever devotion appeals to one’s soul. 🙂 After all, if one was superior, why would she and our Lord have bothered giving us multiple choice? :rolleyes: 😛

The Rosary, why else would she call herself Queen of the rosary? More saints and popes have praised the rosary than any other Marian devotion? I don’t believe Mary plays favorites, but i certainly believe that the rosary is the most powerful Marian devotion.
 
I think that what is most pleasing to Mary is the devotion that brings you closer to her Son and the Will of God. What does it for you should be the question. Tim

I could see where this is heading.
 
I don’t think that Mary has a favorite. To me that would be like asking my mother what her favorite gift from her children was at Christmastime. When given with love and thoughtfulness, all gifts and devotions are equal.

You were recommended to read the devotion to Mary of other Saints. You said no to it. Why would you want to ask us?

She knows what is best for you and She helps you answer your own question if you are opened to Her. In fact, it has been answered; you just didn’t want to listen to.

Now, I am confused myself. 🙂 I am sorry for the confusion.

She does know what is the most powerful devotion. However, this does not mean She would reject your prayer if you don’t pray what She thinks it is the best. All prayers following God’s will are beautiful to her. Blessed Virgin Mary does know what is good for you at the present moment. She would prefer you to have the devotions that She knows it is best for you.

All you need to do is ask Her what devotion that is.
 
Mary is still human, though (more human than us!), and humans can recognize greater or lesser degrees of aesthetic beauty. Presumably, devotions could be more or less beautiful, and there would be nothing wrong with ranking them in that respect.
 
Of course not. I believe she is far above such things… and that personal preferences do not concern her. I believe she looks with great humility at the love with which her children seek her intercession and protection.

I would think that ANY devotion to ANYONE that would take the focus and attention away from her Son she would not appreciate.

That’s a good point, Liza. As you point out, a person would be very wise to steer clear of any kind of “devotion” of which Our dear Lord is not the center.

I can’t think of a single devotion to Our Lady, however… which does not focus on Jesus. A prime example is the Rosary. All of the Mysteries… focus on the life of Our Lord… while the Hail Mary’s are being said. You see… she really does lead us TO Jesus. Always. :heaven:

I really love the thought that those devoted to Our Lady… take the same path which Our Lord took. He entered the world, through Mary. Those who are granted a devotion to her, go back to Jesus… through Mary.

Sometimes… I’m struck with awe… at the generosity of Jesus… in sharing His own beloved Mother, with us.
 
How exactly will you determine what the correct answer is? I understand you and she aren’t on speaking terms. 😉

Some devotions may require more sacrifice than others, some through their phrases and language may excite one’s mind to greater devotion, all of which adds to the prayer prayed. But as I said, I would think that mostly this depends on each person rather than the devotion itself per se.

It goes without saying, of course, that the devotions must be performed properly - gabbling 15 decades of a rosary will not be as profitable as saying one “Hail Mary” with attention.

Having said that, I would think there are two things that would be “greater” than other devotions- if you can call these two devotions. One would be a Mass in honour of the BVM and the other, the Divine Office of a title or mystery of hers. The Mass naturally, because no prayer can match the honour rendered by the fruit of the Sacrifice. The Divine Office because inasmuch as the prayer is the prayer of the person in the name of the Church, the devotion of the Church adds to the prayer.

I think she is far more interested and impressed by the depth of devotion of the individual to her Son, and the desire of that individual to come closer to her Son in obedience to his commands, than she is by the manner in which the devotion is expressed.
 
I would think that although she may have personal preferences, that what is truly most important to her is whether a particular devotion brings you closer to her Son and whether it does so more than another devotion would considering all she knows of you, through her Son.
