I mean in the next 200-300 years, do you think it is possible? He’s cared so much for children, although in a secular way. Though he wasn’t a catholic (I think he was Presbyterian protestant)

If you mean Mr. Rogers, my Latin teacher, still in question. Please specify which Mr. Rogers to whom you refer.

I am sure the OP is referring to Fred Rogers. And to the OP, the answer is no. Not because he was not a lovely man, but because he was not Catholic.

I really can’t say for sure that he will be. He wasn’t Catholic… 😦

Haha yes I meant Fred Rogers (who’s roy?) But even if he’s not a saint we can almost be certain he’s in heaven right? Right?
On some youtube videos a few commenters said the man was just below jesus. Unfortunately when I was small I only knew him as a guest on a cartoon called Arthur

There are two kinds of rash presumption. One we are all familiar with: that some person we thought evil must definitely be in Hell. But the less familiar is the rash presumption that someone is in Heaven because they did all these good works. I’ve actually heard a priest declare that a parishioner that had recently died “probably didn’t have to bother with all that Purgatory stuff and went straight to Heaven”. Naturally, nothing is wrong with praying and hoping someone is in Heaven, but the wise move is to leave the particular judgements to the Almighty.

Mr. Rogers hopefully is in Heaven. If he is, then he is already a saint. However, the Church is only going to recognize and canonize as worthy of veneration someone if they were in full and manifest communion with Her.

I don’t know that any church will canonize him, but he’s certainly a saint in my heart.

In MY childhood Roy Rogers was HUGE. He was a cowboy on TV. And one of the “Sons of the Pioneers” group that backed Gene Autry for awhile and had some big hits on their own later. Such as “Cool Water” (in which the thirsting man’s prayer is heard) and “Tumblin’ Tumbleweeds”.

God … not excluding the name Jesus … often made its way into Roy Rogers’ songs, especially those he did with his wife Dale Evans.

Roy and Dale had a big family, some of them adopted, and made at least one Christian Children’s Album when I was about 4 … so pre-Church for me. Some of the lyrics taught kids to love their neighbors (even enemies!), that Jesus loved them, and to read the Bible.

Their denomination was some stripe of Protestant, Baptist possibly, but THAT didn’t get talked about much. In the 1950s it was more than OK to include God into the conversation … particularly with kids. Buffalo Bob Smith of the Howdy Doody Show often signed off his Friday programs reminding kids to worship " … at the Church or Synangogue of your choice!" So as a kid, I got the idea that all Churches were good … or a good thing. 😉

Fred Rogers? Also taught kids good things, like being neighborly. And ran a clean show. Hope they are all in heaven now that they are gone. On the basis of “Declare a tree good and its fruits good …” I have high hopes for these grown ups that took time to
share good things … and model a good life … for children.
