Yes. And they’re all liberal claptrap. Dr. Wayne Dyer’s pseudo-buddhistic treacle is emblematic of the “Pledge Drive” morass.

I can’t stand Frontline.

All of the British programming they import is homosexualist and liberal. I keep getting hooked into them because of my parents watching, and then they have some storyline, like Call the Midwife’s abortion plot, or Miss Fisher’s homosexual buddies. It sickens me.

I’ll admit the pledge drive shows are awful, and they keep repeating the same ones and more often. No wonder they can never raise enough money. But the others which I watch, including Frontline, I find quite good.

I can’t stand Frontline either. And they lost me as a contributor when they ran a POV story about doctors doing late term abortions. This is another thing our tax dollars shouldn’t be funding.
 
I think the last time I donated to PBS it was the 1980’s.
I can’t say all of their shows are bad. I don’t like the fundraising shows.
Some of their shows seem a little biased towards the left. If I don’t like the show I change the channel.
I don’t know how much money they receive.

Some of them are, yes, like the ones based on some author’s book that offer financial planning or health tips. These programs have a more limited target audience, but someone must find them useful or they wouldn’t keep running them. But I would set these apart from outstanding features like the Ken Burns documentaries or series like The American Experience. These latter ones are the first ones I think of when someone brings up PBS, and they don’t seem like infomercials to me.
 
My mind went immediately to the kids’ shows. 😊

There are actually a couple kids’ programs I don’t like my kids watching, but it’s not the infomercial aspect. I just think they’re silly or encourage values I don’t like (not as much as commercial television, I’ll admit, but still.) And some of the ways they teach handling conflict is very different than what I want my kids to learn.

Any episode about “being special” gets skipped. 😛

I just watched Justin Hayward of the Moody blues. He was amazing.

Downton Abbey, Crimson Field, Midsummer Murders, Call the Midwife, Father Brown… to call them claptrap is just silly.

Grantchester (about an English vicar who solves mysteries), Father Brown, Sherlock, Wolf Hall, Upstairs Downstairs…

If we can’t have the BBC, at least we have PBS.

Have you seen any of the Ken Burns’ series, such as The Civil War, The War (on World War II),The Roosevelts: An Intimate History, covering the lives of Theodore, Franklin, and Eleanor, or Baseball? Or some of the musical shows on jazz, Broadway, and opera, or Masterpiece Theater and Mystery? If these are infomercials for the Democrat party, you sure could have fooled me.

I am referring to their news and analysis shows . I love PBS but like NPR they have a liberal slant in their new shows . Let me rephrase that they have a very ,very liberal slant in their new shows . Have you ever watch Bill Moyer .

I’ve watched Bill Moyers a few times but never much cared for his show. (I believe he retired.) Yes, I agree he has a very liberal slant, and it was just too much even for me. I prefer balanced programming even though I like some of the MSNBC programs, more for their entertainment value than anything else. Talking about NPR, I also watch Amy Goodman’s Democracy, Now! She never fails to take the MOST leftist viewpoint no matter what, even being critical of Obama when necessary and always critical of Israel. But the PBS mainstream shows I mentioned (also Nature, which I omitted) are usually quite informative and entertaining. They are light years ahead of the inane and insane junk found on most of commercial television.

Could I be a closet conservative?

I suspect in New York City you might be considered a closet conservative . In Texas you would be considered a bleeding heart liberal

juuuuuuuuuuuust kidding! It would be hard to move from estes park to houston, but considering what has been happening in Colorado the past 10 years - I would take Texas! Houston has never seemed appealing - unless you are wanting to relive those urban cowboy days! 😉
