Do you think this is a disrespectful thing to do?

It’s hilarious on one level. On another level, it shows a universal reverence, kind of like those car sticker that show Calvin (the comic character) kneeling in front of a cross.

It reminds me of that Episcopal meme.

I put a small plastic Yellow Lab in our Nativity display, because as is well known, Yellow Labs are God’s favorite dog. (That’s why they’re always smiling!)

Are you saying you actually did this or asking if the joke itself is disrespectful? (I’ve seen this online multiple times over the years.)
 
I don’t think it’s disrespectful. I bought little grizzly bears in Christmas sweaters last year and the cashier asked if they were for the Nativity. Well, no but the suggestion of it was funny so I put them with the sheep.
 
So would everyone that doesn’t think it is disrespectful be okay with seeing something like this in the Nativity set at their church?

At church or anywhere public I would consider it flippant. In an intimate environment at home, my family could appreciate it along with kids favourite characters and loved toys.

Something in a church, I wouldn’t go so far as to say it is disrespectful, but it would be historically inaccurate and would look frivolous. In the home, I would only say that all creation should bow before Our Blessed Lord, and that would include Yoda, grizzly bears, and yellow labs. It could make things more “real” and relatable for young children, especially, in the same way that little children “playing Mass” could put stuffed animals in the “congregation”.

I would probably draw the line at those little South Park figurines you will see in some novelty stores, though I think we can all agree that Cartman needs to get some religion…
 
See, I don’t understand why it’s okay in one place but not another. If it’s not okay at church, why is it okay at home? No one sees that as odd?
