I used to be addicted to Craig Ferguson (Late Late Show host)… He was rauchy but i tried to ignore the bad stuff & focus on his funniness… However, I wrote a letter to CBS complaining about it… and nothing changed… So far, no return letter even (but haven’t checked mail in few days…)…

Anyway, the final straw was when he had this comedian on who seemed Ok until he (in monologue) said he was gay… I was so sick of the gay agenda this show has that i couldn’t take it anymore and stopped watching. I then spent the time i would spent watchin the show reading an exorcist’s prayer (it was what was handy…). It was weird - i had to read it through several times before i finally began to feel the filth being washed off my soul…

I am just wondering if anyone else finds this show disgusting?
Then there are other shows that always focus on sex…

I’m giving up TV almost entirely…

I tend to agree with you. TV and the entertainment world in general is really getting bad. They all glorify themselves and savor any time in the limelight regardless of why they are there. It also seems that the worse you behave, the better rewarded you are…ala Brittney Spears, the Lohan Family, Paris Hilton, etc. etc. etc. The worst part about it is that they just don’t see how sad it all is and our culture just craves more and more of it from them. Our culture even thrives on emulating their behaviors. In fact, one city fully endorses that…Vegas. What Happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas. How truly truly sad.

Behaviors that were once hidden out of shame are now revered in the open. The true decline of Western Civilization.

So true…

I assume you have watched the Late Late Show??

What is sad is that C. Ferguson has talent… a lot of it… and he is wasting it serving the devil… and is possibly on his way to hell and dragging others with him…

No matter how Christian a person is, when certain un-Christian behaviors are constanty and repetitiously glorified (promoted ) on television… it is bound to have an adverse effect, if only unconsciously…
you can even start thinking on some level that maybe there is something wrong with you because you are so “prudish”…
The more of the junk you see, the more numb you get, the less a big deal it becomes, until, well… until who knows what happens to your soul…
People who think they can watch this stuff & not be seriously affected are not fully realizing how weak we of the human race are…
(Isnt it pride that says we are NOT weak…?).

TV is mostly full of negative influences, except for EWTN. If my wife wasn’t such a fan of the HGTV and the Food Network I would probably just go without it and really not miss it too much.

You people are insane. It’s not a sin to watch that stuff, even if you don’t agree with it. It’s a sin if you act in a sinful manner because of it, but the show’s not going to make you do anything. It may put thoughts in your head or something, but overall, you’re responsible for your actions. If a gay guy is on the show, that’s nice, but it’s not a sin for you to see him. You’re not going to turn gay or have gay sex because of it.

That’s why there is the Discovery Channel and BookTV and DVR’s so you can fill up your recorder and watch that stuff all week.

By the way, check out “The Naked Archeologist”. Check the web for it and then click around to find it by you. It’s all about the adventures of a Canadian Jewish film maker who explores the Holy Land checking out biblical stories. Really interesting. Just set your DVR.

Thank God Im not the only one.

Thank God Im not the only one.
Nope.

There’s lots of us out here.

AND the History Channel. *

AND, ten lashes with a wet noodle, I forgot to mention EWTN.

I am mortified at having omitted EWTN.

I tear my shirt in penance for forgetting EWTN.

And then there’s www.marklevinshow.com and the audio rewind. [Can you imagine … a radio program about the Constitution and it’s the fastest growing radio program in the ether.]

And of course, Catholic Answers Radio.

And, Catholic Answers CDs … especially that Lepanto CD.

And also Mark Simone … [who?] … Mark Simone is on WABC in New York AM770 on Saturday mornings from 6am to 10 am. Fabulous. And you can listen to him on the internet.

And Larry Kudlow … on WABC radio from 10am to 1pm. Saturday.

And Monica Crowley … on WABC radio … from 1pm to 4pm. Saturday.

I just found that she’s got audio rewind on her Web site:

monicamemo.typepad.com/weblog/

What a great lineup!

What a prolific panoply of pro-Constitution pundits!!!*

You are what you eat. We have an moral obligation to regulate what we voluntarily read, watch and say and deliberately neglecting that duty or having excessive carelessness certainly can be a sin (However I don’t think that is the case with the op).

of course nothing happened, you a millions of others continue watching the show so the network are not going to change anything that is bringing them bucks. if you want results, complain to the sponsors who pay for the show, boycott their products, and explain why and everyone in your extended family will no longer be purchasing anything mfged or sold by their company. And STOP watching JUNK. garbage in, garbage out.

Right on… If i had EWTN, that would be a reason to watch TV… but i fear to get cable because of all the other nonsense i may be exposed to… (there are other reasons i do n’t subscribe…)…

You people are insane.
You are supposed to show respect to the Posters on this forum…
It’s not a sin to watch that stuff, even if you don’t agree with it.
No one said it was a sin. I asked the question if it was a sin… What i should have said/asked was whether it was an OCCASSION of sin… which is somehting else we Catholics are to be concerned about…
the show’s not going to make you do anything. It may put thoughts in your head or something, but overall, you’re responsible for your actions.
No one has said otherwise…
It is a known fact that if a person watches acts of violence (for example) on a regular basis, he will become numb to it, which usually leads to insensitivity toward those who suffer as victims of violence… You can’t just watch somethin, especially on a regular basis and not be affected by it.
a gay guy is on the show, that’s nice,
That;s nice?? So you think it is OK to be gay??
You’re not going to turn gay or have gay sex because of it.
Again, no one inferred that was the case… but seeing this stuff that goes against God causes a person to be depressed, and disturbed… It did me… and i didn’t even see the effect it had on me until, well, now that i think about it… until i stopped watching the @&**^%%.

To be honest, i did have a problem with watching the show when i knew i shouldn’t… but that just shows i am a weak human being… I thought CF was rather attractive… (i’m female… which, when you know the show… is NOT something that should be left unsaid… ). But i am no longer attracted 2 him… I can’t be attracted to anything/anyone that, to be frank, represents Satan anymore…

I am ashamed that i was for a short time… but again, i am a human being… living and learning…

Not true. I not only stopped watching him but stopped watching virtually all TV…
, complain to the sponsors who pay for the show, boycott their products, and explain why and everyone in your extended family will no longer be purchasing anything mfged or sold by their company. t.
Funny you should say this because that is exactly what God seemed to be telling me…

I’ve heard back in the old days that the Church used to issue a list of books and movies that were forbidden and considered a sin. Maybe there is too much media these days to keep up on, but I do think viewing certain things on TV can debase us and perhaps lead us to sin.

The standard continues to lower each year, it really makes it hard on the average person. But definately, viewing the wrong type of media, that portrays sinful situations, can indoctrinate us to accept this as normal.

I think serious Catholics and other Christians should seriously consider what they watch or read, and giving up television is an excellent idea. The problem with television is the constant stream of images, promos for other shows, commercial advertising, etc. You can’t really control it. Our family does not have broadcast TV, but we do have a DVD player to watch movies, and we have the internet. This has worked well for us.

Uh…it’s totally okay to be gay. It’s just not all right to practice gay sexuality…

According to traditional Catholic putting oneself into a proximate temptation to sin can be a sin itself. This could be true of a television show. And too some shows deliberately aim at destroying Catholic morals, such as ones glorifying gay life. Such shows have greatly affected the outlooks of many Catholics in a very undesirable way.
There are good shows on television. And I have watched television myself, though not often. But on the other hand there are ones that are quite the opposite. I think that when it comes to some families, televison is a way that satan comes right into their living room and home. This may not be true your case–or is it?

Sure, you can censor what you watch and all that, but art is art. Art is subjective. I mean, you can’t censor art. Whether you choose to watch TV is up to you, but even if the stuff is really raunchy or just garbage, that doesn’t mean the thing is intrinsically evil. What we see is what we make it. What we do with it is good or bad, but the art or image itself is neutral.
