Do you think this is appropriate attire for Mass?

I usually NEVER pay attention to what anyone’s wearing at Mass
And that’s probably the best attitude. I try to not judge what someone is like inside by what they wear on the outside, or what their intentions are. Frankly, it’s none of my business what they wear.

Devils T-shirt? Perhaps not the best choice for Mass, but again, just because someone likes heavy metal and the bits and bobs doesn’t mean they’re sacrificing chickens over altars(other than occasional trips to KFC) or dancing around black candles.

Clothes in general are personal taste and yours isn’t going to be the same as someone elses. They might be looking at you and seeing something equally naff in their eyes. Is it prideful to dress up differently for Church and make a big show of it, or should one go as one is, no attempt at pretense?

These items are not appropriate, unless they are all a person can afford or, as some suggest, they are coming to Mass during their workday. Also not appropriate are the jeans which are cut so low that when the young (or not) woman in front of me sits down, I see way too much (we have chairs and the lower back part is open). Ugh. Some respect would be nice. In my house, we made it a practice to dress respectuflly, and now that the kids are all in college, they dress nicely for Mass.

You know my son attends a Catholic H.S. the dress code is dress pants, dress shirt (all buttons buttoned), tie and blazer…
He wears the same thing to mass…minus the tie and blazer.

As for me…usually something like this in the summer…

and in the cooler months…I wear dress pants and sweater or blouse

Those jeans look identical to several pairs I have or had. Very comfortable but not good for church. Ihave no problem with the dress as long as the persons intention was not to show off their body.

At least they are coming. Those clothes are the kind usually worn by young people (teens and early twenties). I’d rather they come to mass to learn better judgement. They have time to develop better sense and better taste.

And their parents ought to be helping them.

there has ben alot of discussion about clothing worn to Mass. here are some examples of what i have seen people wearing to Mass, and to me, it is highly inappropriate to wear these types of clothing to Mass. What is your opinion? Do you think people should wear more conservative clothing to Mass out of respect fo rour Lord? I do. the photo of the devil type thing is like a t-shirt i’ve seen in Mass.
I’m with you.

VERY good point! 👍

Maybe the torn t-shirt and ripped jeans could be worn on “holy” days. :whacky:

well, i don’t know where you live, but where we live it happens quite frequently.
Oklahoma. I worked in the poorest part of the metro area as a TANF case worker.
I believe a lot of young folks may be wearing those things to church. In my experience the only times we come across children who did not have access to a clean shirt, pants or skirt it was because the parents generally used the money for drugs or alcohol. Those children are usually not found at church. They are in houses with piles of dirty laundry piled up in filthy rooms. Plenty of clothing. Parents who don’t give a d***.
Even those homeless we have served had access to church thrift shops where clean clothing can be bought for as little as 25 cents.
BUT I don’t think we are talking about the poor wearing the apparel pictured. I think we are talking about middle class or more well to do kids. Probably kids who can easily afford to dress in clean decent clothing.

one can actually dress very modestly and not be prideful. 👍

looks very comfy! 👍
PM’d ya…

But I will repost here…this is a common style of dress for Indians and Pakistanis so if you have one of these communties around you…I suggest going there to get a pattern/fabrics etc…
I do not have a pattern…sorry my darling tailor does though…but he is in Pakistan and I am here in NJ…so you see that would be a bit difficult…
just a thought …are you able to make a pattern if you see the actual garment?

as a matter of fact, as i stated in pm, we have a lovely lovely indian community here, and likely a lovely fabric shop too with patterns! iam excited about this, as i never thought to make myself one! i saw on a site some of the patterns, and they are very modest indeed!🙂

It’s not making a big pretense, it’s showing respect. When a teen is taught how to dress then you would not run into this.
My son (in fact all my kids) goes to a public high school that has a very strict dress code, they all wear solid color collared shirts, (golf shirts are acceptable) slacks or standard dark colored jeans, with a belt, (no underwear showing) or knee length skirts, no mini’s. Sweaters must be solid color, no piercing other than 2 earrings. No sports team jackets, sweatpants, t-shirts, overalls or ripped clothing at all. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Now if a child must follow these rules for school it should be a no brainer that God deserves more respect than school.
I have seen ripped jeans and old t-shirt worn by kids with $100 sneakers.
