Do you truly believe in the Real Presence?

Absolutely…I fell in love with the Eucharist about three years ago when I realized what it truly was. A weekend renewal retreat is all it took for me and attending daily mass helped as well. The prayer before mass by St. Francis of Assisi is what I recite after the consecration. I’ve provided it below.

Let the whole of mankind tremble, the whole world shake and the heavens exult, when Christ, the Son of the living God, is present on the altar in the hands of a priest.

O admirable heights and sublime lowliness! O sublime humility! O humble sublimity!

That the Lord of the universe, God and the Son of God, so humbles Himself that for our salvation He hides Himself under the little form of bread!

Look brothers, at the humility of God and pour out your hearts before Him! Humble yourselves as well, that you may be exalted by Him.

Therefore, hold back nothing of yourselves for yourselves so that He who gives Himself totally to you may receive you totally.

Amen

I can not tell you how much this prayer has helped me develop a strong devotion to the Blessed Sacrament.

I would also recommend reading Mane Nobiscum Domine.

Hope this helps…God Bless

Christ’s were the Words o’er the bread t’were spake

His the Hands that bread didst brake

And what His Words and Hands didst make it

This I believe and take it.

Amen

In reading over the various comments regarding the Real Presence I felt it important that I pass on my feeling for the Eucharist. I am a “cradle” Catholic and could count on the fingers of one hand how many times I might have missed Mass on Sundays or Holy Days. However, after becoming a widow four years ago (married over 50 years) I attended a one-day program on the Eucharist at Vallombrosa Center (a retreat house south of San Francisco). The presenter was Rev. Ronald Rolheiser who lives in Canada. I couldn’t possibly explain just what Fr. Rolheiser said that day, but his words about the Eucharist inspired me so much that I made a promise to myself that I would go to Mass every day to receive the Eucharist so that I would have Jesus with me throughout the day. What a blessing it has been!!!

I truly do believe it. If I didn’t, I would not go to a Catholic church such as the ones available in my area; I’d instead go a church with more reverence and order and tradition. But I do believe it, so I quietly endure all of the insults of the modern American Masses, remembering that I am there for Jesus, not for outward appearances. I do pray daily that God will place orthodox men in the high places to and bring about the restoration of the solemn, graceful liturgy to the American churches.

I don’t think you can call yourself Catholic and not believe.

Tears always fill me eyes and I’m overwhelmed when the conseration takes place, I know that I will soon recieve Jesus Christ in the blessed Sacrament of the Eucharist.
Fr. Larry Richards CD “Mass Explained” struck a cord with me that has never left my heart, he said:
If we truely beleive that Jesus Christ was truely present before us on the alter at Mass and in the Holy Eucharist, would we ever get off our knee’s?

:yup: I voted YES to the following: “At the moment of consecration I believe that the Bread and Wine becomes the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ”.

If I didn’t believe that, I would have no reason to stay in the one Church Jesus founded, the Catholic Church! :bowdown2:

Blessings!

I have that CD too and I say this “Amen” with the same meaning that
Fr. Richards says the early church did. “Amen! I 'll stake my life on it!”
Hosanna in the highest!

There must be a very fine line between this and the regular practice of cannibalism and I have been searching for that line since my first communion.
Pat
I finally decided that I had to accept the fact that this is not cannibalism and defer understanding until such time as the Lord sees fit to enlighten me. Of course, that time may not come in this life.

But I can’t deny the truth of Christ’s words just because I don’t understand in a way that lets me explain it in words. I have a sense of it in my heart and I am content with that.

I am an adult convert, and it is the truth of the Real Presence that brought me to and brought me back and keeps me in the Church.

May we all have the grace to put truth before sensibilness.

A nice neat answer for me would be “Yes, yes, yes!” However, I imagine that I us should answer “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief.” While I believe enough to die for the Eucharist, I think, I don’t think I have the belief of some of the saints who have gone before us.
I’m sure they had shaky times. You never know what you’ll do or say until you’re in the situation. I’m thankful we can count on the Holy Spirit to give us the words to say…❤️

I believe it.

Now if only I could live in a manner worthy of such a gift.

As they sat in Minnesota next, Ya sure. Considering the type/class of persons who follow these forums what else would one expect except an overwhelming majority who believe. 🙂

little disagreement here among well informed Catholics. Though, I would I guess the very well informed would say that no single sentence could ever properly describe the great and holy mystery of the Eucharist.

Before Pope John Paul’s Acceptance of the Anaphora of Addai and Mari I would believe only the words of consecration instituted by Christ are responsible for the Divine Mystery to take place.
I will continue to only attend the Indult Mass.
It is clear to me the changes and the acceptance of the different liturgies is for the Unification of the Christian Churches and maybe in some way of the Jewish tradition. I will not argue with the providence of God. I will take the path of choice given to me for salvation ,the Latin Rite of the Mass.

If you really believe in the Real Presence, it’s impossible to stay away from Mass. How blessed are we. Protestants are all have to wait for Jesus’ second coming, but we get to spend time with Him every Sunday (or more if we want)!

Sometimes faith in the True Presence can be found in a Baptist church…
Last Sunday, after attending Mass, I went to the popular Baptist church with a friend (she comes to Mass with me so I occasionally go to her church service). This week was different because it was the first time I attended a fundamentalist’s “Lord’s Supper.” While the preacher was…um, preaching about the holiness and importance of the Lord’s Supper, something inside of me was moved to tears. Maybe it was because the preacher emphasized how taking the bread and wine was “SYMBOLLIC” and then how he quoted Jesus as saying “Take eat, this is my body.”

I still cannot find words to express the feelings that came to me; it was almost as if I felt they were insulting Jesus, or me, or the Church…but like I said, I can’t explain it. I am, however, ever grateful in the Lord’s Real Presence!

Absolutely and without question. Any Catholic who thinks, believes or promotes otherwise had better review “Dogma and the Concept of Transubstantiation”,

“Christ becomes present in the Sacrament of the Altar by the transformation of the whole substance of the bread into His Body and the whole substance of the wine into His Blood. (De fide.)”

To think or believe otherwise is heresy. (e.g., as Luther did in his doctrine of consubstantiation, which on top of being heretical, strikes me as plain silly :rotfl: )
