If so, please describe how?

Maybe you don’t, but you see spirituality in others, so in what way are they spiritual?

There are probably many obvious answers, but no always. What some see as spirituality others don’t.

Can people be spiritual without even knowing it?

Thoughts welcome 🙂

Depends on what “spiritual” means.

One can be spiritual and not be religious. Be religious but not spiritual. Or be both.

I think to have true Faith, one should be both religious and spiritual.

I think it’s foolish and most likely heresy to attempt to separate the two.

Spirituality is morally neutral. One can be spiritual, but be a Satanist. Come to think of it, Satan is pure spirit. Holiness is what we should strive for. :highprayer:

In Thoughts In Solitude, Thomas Merton says a life is either all spiritual or not spiritual at all.

I view my life as a spiritual one.

I do view myself as spiritual. Due to an early age near death experience I became aware of the spiritual and God. Thus my sense of the spiritual is rather precise and easy for me to detect. For example: It seems I can discern the psychological from the spiritual, which I do believe many people confuse. I also can read people very accurately and am not easily deceived.

Prayer is important to me, and I am often inspired to pray for things “out of the blue” only to discover later that for a certain person, or event, that prayer has been answered. It can take years to see that prayer specifically answered, but it is and I recognize it immediately.

I think we are spiritual by nature, but we live in a society and world that wants to discredit that aspect of our life and does not nurture it. We can all tap into this connection with God through prayer, proper living and making choices against sin. It is a constant work and we can lose touch with our spiritual side if we get lazy or indifferent.

Well I don’t know…

I am drawn more to the mystical side of faith - but I can’t say that it necessarily translates into my daily life well (I’m pretty weak…😊).

But yes - I guess I would view myself as 'Spiritual" in that I don’t feel the need to have everything explained and I like to have everything simplified to their most fundamental principle (In this case Agape) and then work from there.

Just my 2c

Peace
James

By working and thinking of Christ each day ,all day. I’m not sure a person can be spiritual with no thought.

Yes I would say that I am spiritual. By that I mean that I have a rich inner spiritual life, even if the outer life is a shamble, in that despite everything, I have a profound sense of God working in my life and reaching out to me through others around me and those who come across my path 👍

Being spiritually reborn at Baptism and being filled with the Holy Spirit, it’s impossible to have a relationship with Jesus and not be spiritual.

What is born of the flesh is flesh, what is born of the spirit is spirit.

According to Thomas a Kempis, a spiritual man is prayerful and recollected, intentionally advancing in virtue, and not unduly attached to created things (I.T. II, i, 7; v, 2).

Yes, although I think we are tempted to confuse feelings of consolation as our “spiritual” moments, when periods of aridity are also spiritual, and perhaps these are the moments where we are at our most spiritual, when we try to love God above what we feel.

The more I learn about the faith the more spiritual I become. Reading the thought of Aquinas has really boosted my spirituality, and when I get around to reading about his biblical scholarship, hymns, canticles and poetry, I’m sure that will help as well.

It’s very difficult to answer this question without understanding what you mean by ‘spiritual’. I’ve heard many people try to define what spiritual means to them, but none of the explanations were satisfactory to me.

I don’t consider myself to be spiritual, but I’m English. It’s been said that the English are not a spiritual people. That’s why we invented the game of cricket - to give us some idea of eternity.

😃 This put a smile on my face (I’m a native Londoner) - thank you 😃

I endorse this comment. I’ve had quite a number of “spiritual experiences” but I don’t regard myself as “spiritual”. I’m not holy enough. The “spiritual experiences” have come almost in spite of myself, rather than because of myself.

I had an old pastor whom I regarded as “spiritual”, but he was also holy. I think the two go together, at least in the Christian sense. When I say spiritual, he wasn’t mystical, and in fact he was very down to earth. But he had an uncanny ability to advise people, and to see what probably lay in store for them. He could also judge a person’s character quickly and accurately.

However I think his spirituality was due to his long term holiness and obedience to God.

There have been other people I’ve met from time to time whom I’d regard as “spiritual”, but these days it’s somewhat difficult fo find desert hermits. I haven’t seen any St. John of the Cross types.

If you want to be “spiritual”, seek holiness.

I suppose it depends what you mean by relationship. “Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord…”
But that’s not for you to judge.

A relationship with Jesus is allowing Him into your life and seeking to align your will with His. It’s doing the best you can to follow His commandments, which is to love God with all your heart and strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself.

Those who have not experienced the divine love of Jesus, will have a difficult time understanding this.

God is spirit.

How can one turn to God in prayer and not be spiritual ?
