I watch it now and then but my elderly parents are more into it then I am,watch it pretty “religiously”.
Not sure how to feel about this 🤔.
I’m referring to the Australian version which in my view is less fake/scripted then the American version but still to me isn’t the greatest ‘ideal of love’ as it still seems a little bit shallow imo because obviously half the girls are there because they want to promote their business or get famous, only beautiful women and no bigger, older, boring, ‘unattractive’ or average looking women ‘allowed’ etc…

I do like though First Dates,Maried at First sight and 90 day fiancée (America show).

I do not watch any of the shows you mentioned. I will admit I am fascinated and disgusted by TeenMom… That show needs to end and most of the people on there, with a few exceptions, need to grow up and get real jobs. Instead, the show is their job and means of support. That is not healthy for them or their children.

I agree that it is shallow, not a little but a lot.

A family member was watching it and I happened to watch for a while to see what it was about.

It certainly has nothing at all to do with true love and what really counts before the Lord.
To me it seems to take people away from the reality of what really matters.

I don’t have time in my life for much TV and certainly not for reality shows. I have less than zero interest in somebody else’s (probably fake, scripted) love life. I’m not even all that interested in my friend’s love lives much less some stranger on TV.

So no, I don’t watch that stuff.

Last reality show I remember watching was either Casey Anderson and his bear or something about a woman who dressed up her poodle and entered it in dog beauty contests.

No, I can’t watch reality tv shows.
Can’t believe we have a reality TV President.

Heavens no. With my family and friends, and my own appearances on television, I have seen behind the curtain of “reality TV”.

We don’t “watch” it with any kind of attention, but it’s the kind of thing that might be on in the background as we’re making dinner.

I wouldn’t stress it if you enjoy it, provided you’re remembering that this is just a silly tv show and not something you should take at all seriously.

Well, in fairness, Trump was a celeb and a household word long before anyone invented reality shows. Him and his first wife Ivana were like the Kardashians of their time.

Only the oldest because of privacy stuff. I was on one of the very first “Reality” shows, “Real People”.

It was a 16 hour shoot for what was a maybe 10 minute spot. The scene where we went into a restaurant to eat? That took 4 hours. The prayer over the food had to have been shot 20 times. By the time they had the shots and could actually EAT, the food was cold and old but we were famished and consumed it like there was no tomorrow.

Everything you see on TV is shot and re-shot and done again from this angle. There is not a “script” but the producers know what they want said/done.

A few years ago I ran across the premiere of a scripted TV show called “UnReal”. While I lost interest in it, it was very close to our experiences in the world of un scripted TV.

Never understood the appeal of these kind of shows; the people featured all seem so shallow and unlikeable.

Not the Bachelor. My guilty pleasure is “90 Day Fiance” or “My big fat Gypsy Wedding.” TLC ftw!

That’s the appeal. People watch and go, “Ha! Can’t believe he did that, what an idiot!” or “wow, she sounds like a moron…”

You’re basically letting people make fools of themselves for your entertainment. 🤷‍♂️ To be fair, a show about people behaving responsibly and maturely would probably be kind of dull. Someone’s gotta get drunk and flip the table.

Right; but there’s no one to root for in these shows, if what I’ve seen is representative?

The newest season of jersey shore has mike “the situation” acting responsibly and maturely which is a complete 180 from how he used to act. And he’s my favorite person on the show

It’s more like the pleasure of contrasting yourself favorably with the participants, not identifying with them. Like, “wow, I’d never be that ridiculous…”

No, I do not. I despise the The Bachelor and The Bachelorette (and I even know someone who was once on The Bachelorette- he was my ex-boss).

Both of these shows exploit the Sacrament of Matrimony

My parents love watching these shows too, and it really concerns me. Besides belittling marriage, these show promote being a “player” and indirectly promote sleeping around and marrying someone based on sexual compatibility.

The show concepts is simply disgusting to me.

God Bless

Reality shows aren’t my cup of tea. Most nights, I’m asleep with the chickens.
