I just heard Fr Mitch say many theologians deny he exists?

I sure do, I have seen enough evil to convince me…The popes seem to also believe he is real

I think satan wants us to think and believe that he doesn’t exist. I believe he exists. Gods word says he exists. I trust Gods word.

Yes, I do…So does the Church. Who are these ‘theologians’ he was talking about?

He didn’t name names I don’t know…Kung might be one…he is so far off the wall on most things I wouldn’t be surprised if he was leading the charge on this too

But we had a vising priest and I asked him a question and his answer to me was I don’t know if you believe in the devil…so it must be something they are familiar hearing

The devil exists, and that’s what the Catholic Church has always taught. These theologians are bordering on heresy in their “teachings”.

The existence of Satan is “de fide”. No Catholic is at liberty to deny it, because it forms an essential part of the faith.

Poor Hans Kung. He’s everyone’s favorite punching bag! Satan surely gets a good laugh when someone is accused of saying something that people only think they are capable of saying. Sounds uncharitable to me.

redrosetea,
Denies Satan exists? Have they read the Bible?
You may read about Satan when he tried to tempt Jesus. Go to Mt.4:1-11

God bless,

Since the Church cannot err in the truth, she believes in the existence of Satan. Just as a man believes in gravity, so too dose the Church believe in Satan.

You sure should believe the devil exist because he sure believes you do!👍

Since he denies the divinity of Christ, as well as other fundemental Catholic doctirnes why should I assume he thinks the devil is real?

Conjecture is allowed on this forum…If you can’t post what you think what is the point of posting at all?..If I want to punch out Kung I would have no problem coming up with material

Satan’s greatest triumph was in convincing people he doesn’t exist.

As an old, wise, and holy Franciscan priest once told me: “As an exorcist for 35 years (he was appointed an exorcist in South Africa), I can tell you Satan exists all right, for I have faced him; I have felt his presence; I have smelled him; I have heard him speak; and by the power of Jesus Christ and Holy Mother Church, I have driven his workers back into the pits of Hell. No modern theologian can explain this reality away.”

P.S. For more first hand accounts of dealing with Satan in exorcisms, read *An Exorcist Tells his Story *by Father Amorth, the Chief Exorcist of the Vatican.

In an interview with Fr. Amorth:

Interviewer: “You fight against the demon every day. What is Satan’s greatest success?”

Fr. Amorth: "To succeed in making people believe that he doesn’t exist. And in this he has almost succeeded. Even within the Church. We have a clergy and an episcopate who no longer believe in the devil, in exorcisms, in the extraordinary evil that the devil can cause, nor in the power that Jesus has given us to drive out demons.

For three centuries, the Latin Church - in contrast with the Orthodox Church and various Protestant confessions - has almost entirely abandoned the ministry of exorcism. As the clergy no longer practice exorcisms, as they no longer study them and have never seen them, they no longer believe in them. And nor do they believe in the devil either. We have entire episcopates who are hostile to exorcisms. There are countries in which there is not a single exorcist, as for example Germany, Switzerland, Spain and Portugal. A terrifying deficiency."

Yes, he is real. It is amazing that even come Christians do not believe that he exists…

No doubt, but I still think it’s ugly and uncharitable. Sometimes conjecture isn’t very far from malicious gossip.

If satan does not exist, then what was the whole point of the crucifixion? That would throw out the story of Adam and Eve, the fall from grace, and the pouring of the blood of Christ for our salvation and further, the entire bible would be a lie.

Just my opinion. I’m no theologian. Just common sense to me.
