Do your parents ever ask you the race of the person you're seeing?

That’s disgusting. I am not a fan of forced diversity becaise I believe it is insulting to those who are picked out for “favor” based on something other than their competence. A man is a man; a doctor is a doctor; a woman is a woman – if they’re human and competent, that’s the bottom line.

Maybe it’s regional? I, too, am embedded in academic medical life and have never – no, not even once – encountered the sort of thing you describe.
Maybe so. It’s especially bad in Maine, some areas of the Appalachian Mountains and the Midwest. Of course, it was also bad in England. It may also be gender-related; you’re a woman are you not? It’s been my experience that when women are around, these kinds of things evaporate, but you get more than a few of the men together and it’s bound to happen.

I think you may well have something there on all counts.

To the OP: your mom may be concerned because sometimes people STILL give a mixed-race couple grief. The higher up the social-intellectual ladder you go, the less you see of it, but it’s still there.

Tell your mom she should ask: “Is she Catholic?”
I’d say, The higher up you are in the brainwash ladder the less you see of it, but that’s my opinion. You can take it or leave it.

If they don’t, they should. Interbreeding is not God’s way. Read the Old Testament, especially the books of Ezra and Nehemiah
I find it difficult to believe that I could read such a statement in 2007. To use God to justify racism is blasphemous.

Don’t try to integrate your personal beliefs of racial separatism with The Bible. The ladder that was mentioned is moreso influenced by income and social status.

avflf, want to take a stab at my previous question when I asked what is ‘white’ when certain groups such as Greeks and Italians weren’t considered white by many?

And you shall hear it in 3007, Bob. Racial differences refuse to go away despite all the social brainwashing that is taking place. Differences between races was an acceptable topic of discussion, as was the Jewish problem, in the first half of the last century. Afterwards, studies that confirmed these findings were suppressed and only those that preached the social gospel of equality were published and propagandized and used as text books. Proper scientific discussion was also stifled and those that held the former view were and are demonized and labelled racists and anti-Semitics. Race equallity is neither supported by proper scientific tests nor by direct observation.

Mediterranean populations are consider a sub group of the white race as are the ancient Arians and the Nordic group.

The “ladder” depicting differences due to income and social status is a very recent invention and bears no resemblance to the facts.

I am so flabbergasted, I find it difficult to respond. What are these so-called differences ?

I think there are more than a few people here that are having trouble separating human dignity from human equality. Each human being is born with like dignity, male and female, regardless of race. But is that to say that all men are equal? What? I’ve got a Masters in Computer Science, part of a post-graduate degree in Non-Linear Dynamics, and this year I’ll be studying at Pontifical Lateran University for a dual-doctorate in Sacred Theology and Canon Law. But I can’t paint, I can’t play the piano very well, I can’t compose a symphony and I won’t write the great American novel. There are other than can do those things, just as there are others who can run a mile four minutes flat. That doesn’t decrease my dignity, but it sure doesn’t mean I’m equal with them in terms of abilities.

Personally, I think the great myth of human equality has been a concerted effort to destroy the human qualities of charity and humility by trying to force us on to a level playing field. In reality all this ever does it is present humans with the opportunity to find all-new things to discriminate against. I think a human that recognizes his excellence in an area of his life, properly understood, will adopt an attitude of humility and thanksgiving, expressed in using his gift to help others. Perhaps if we didn’t spend so much time chanting “we’re all the same!” to one another, we could cultivate those gifts that we do have and use them to help one another. Just my thought.

This is…unbelievable. And disgusting. Good grief, I know that there are still ignorant people who believe such lies, but I didn’t think that any of them would openly admit to it.

My dear Bob

I have not the time neither is this medium conducive to engage in discussions as complex as this one. As you say you’re flabbergasted it shows me that you have not read the opposing views on this subject. I urge you to do so. Whatever the subject at hand always look at both sides of the coin, so to speak. You’ll then be better qualified to judge the merits of each and come to an informed decision.

Well said. The concept of racism in peoples’ minds today is that of hatred towards others. This is not so. Every race is equipted with different abilities and is also restricted in others. When discussing race one deals with the group and not with individuals so it is the ability and restriction of the race in general that one considers and which is clearly demonstrated in the Bell Curve. Everyone should be proud of their own race and his/her own accomplishments. There is no disgrace in being a servant.

What is unbelievable, though not disgusting, is that there are people who will resort to personal attacks when it is obvious they have a limited knowledge of the subject in question

I HAVE judged the merits of each and have come to an informed decision. I do not find the subject complex at all.

Well, when someone posts something like the following:
If they don’t, they should. Interbreeding is not God’s way. Read the Old Testament, especially the books of Ezra and Nehemiah
I have to believe that there is ignorance present. Admittedly I am biased. As the biracial child of a mixed marriage, I have no tolerance for the attitude that my very existence goes against “God’s way”. Nor do I have tolerance for those who appear to wish a return to a time when discussing the “Jewish problem” was acceptable. Too bad if you find that unbelievable. I don’t think I’m the one with limited knowledge on the subject, regardless of whether or not I have memorized “The Bell Curve”. Personally, I have much better things to do with my time.

Actually I’m glad that he is able to admit it.

Let’s say you’re not very tolerant and leave it at that. I also have no time for social or political correctness as defined by today’s standards. As for being a mixture of two races, had you lived in Old Testament days, you’d not be allowed into the congregation of the Lord up to the 10th generation - that’s the time they thought was required to breed out any foreign blood. Deut. 23:2

When people make remarks based on emotion and then call everything that does not fit with their view “LIES” such persons are not so much interested in truth as in their personal beliefs.

If you use the OT passages to support separation of races that means of course that all your clothes are pure too. You don’t mixes linen or cotton or wool do you?

There are many different cultural differences but one trouble of race is finding the dividing lines between the races. There are no clear definite lines.
