My son is almost 12 and he does not like to wear his crucifix necklace like he use to. Do youth boys or men typically wear crosses or crucifixes?

Most around here in that age group wear a medal of some sort (St Sebastian or St. Christopher, or St Michael.
But some don’t wear anything because the schools won’t allow it for liability reasons if they do sports.

It depends on the boy or man.

Some like to wear jewelery and some don’t.

There can be other religious reminders on thier person, for example a St.Sebastian medal on their backpack or bag they use for sports and so on.

I would say men don’t wear jewelry in general. My husband certainly does not due to his occupation. It would be dangerous for him to have on something that could be snagged or caught in machinery. If you son plays sports or is otherwise a normal, active 12 year old-- he will probably not want to wear a necklace.

I’m 26, I wear a simple stainless steel cross on a chain.

My husband has never taken off the gold crucifix I gave him when we married 30 years ago. He is is otherwise not a jewelry wearer.

I agree, some teens do not wear medals or crosses due to sports.

There’s no obligation to wear one. I have a small sacred heart pin that I wear on my jacket. It’s subtle but recognisable.

Ask your son if he would like to wear jewellery. If he does maybe look online with him to find a piece that he would like. Don’t be too disheartened if he does not.

I used to sew small holy medals into his clothing. It was something that my Grandmother did for my mother and her siblings

Some do, some don’t.
In the places where my husband and I grew up, a Catholic man wearing a crucifix either meant he was a deacon/ Church minister type (usually older men) or just a reflection of ethnic background, with Italian and Hispanic men being more likely to wear a crucifix or a visible medal than men of other ethnic backgrounds. My husband always thought of it as being an Italian thing because all the Italian guys he knew in high school wore stuff like that.

If a young man doesn’t want to “wear jewelry” then I can understand that and I would suggest that he instead have something pinned to his clothing (could be in a place where it does not show, even) or something he can carry in his wallet.

Edited to add, and yes if the boy plays sports or works around machinery of any kind, it can be a health hazard to have anything loose dangling.
