I like these shoes. I’m on my feet all day and am wondering if the soles are so hard they might cause sore feet by days end.

Anyone have them? Like them or not? Comfy or not?

While I don’t have that particular pair, I have had quite a few pairs of Doc Martens. They are by far the most comfortable shoes ever, I could not be on my feet all day in any other pair of shoes.😃

**So do you have a pair yet?

I wore them all through high school (but boots not shoes) and that included school, work, and leisure. I am prone to sore feet and didn’t have any problems with my docs. And they held up remarkably well considering the abuse I put them through.**

How does the width run in Doc Martens shoes? I like the way they look, but they don’t come in different widths, and am concerned they might be too narrow for my wide-width (“C” or “W”) feet.

Au contraire. I found them to run wide, which is the only reason I’ve never bought a second pair. I thought the first pair was very comfortable, although I had to cinch the laces as tight as they would go to be snug on my feet (just on the narrow side of average). I wore them with thick socks until the leather stretched enough that I could no longer cinch them snugly enough. 😦

Heh…I found Doc. Martens (men’s) shoes to run a little narrow, which is why I’m still buying them. They’re the best…they’re the only nice-looking shoe comfortable enough to walk long distances.
Sometimes, when I go on vacation, it’s the only pair of shoes that I take.

My main complaint is poor breathability.

Note that you can get these shoes on websites like zappos or 6pm, which provide free return shipping – so if you can’t wear them, they cost you nothing.

Thanks for all the replies!

I bought a pair of Lands End “Terrain Janes” and while the soles are great, my heels slip out the back. (I tried heel liners, which did not help). Lands End said I can return them 👍 .

There is a huge shoe store near me that sells the blue Doc Martens I like. Maybe I’ll go try on a pair this week.

I actually have that pair. The soles aren’t too hard but of the four pairs of Docs I’ve owned in my life those are my least favorites. My issue is with the way they hit right around the ankle. Maybe it’s my old age but I just don’t really have it in my to try to wear them to break them in.

Generally I love my Docs. I have found that they run a bit wide though.

I always have problems with heels slipping out the back of my shoes. I’ve tried on dozens of brands, but the only brands that fit consistently are Nike and Dr. Martens…

I also always have trouble with narrow heels and currently have gauze and medical tape around both heels as I have quarter-sized blisters on them (from sneakers!)

I (and everyone else at my Catholic high school) wore Docs and loved them. They’re heavy, which is what you’ll notice at first, but you get used to them. I didn’t do the kind of walking I do now (city life) in them, but they were great for four years of school (with only one pair!).

I had the lace-up oxfords, not these mary-janes you pictured. The sizing is European, so make sure you pick the correct size (a 5 UK size is a 7 US) in women’s. Go try some on or order from Zappos as was suggested!

I wear these. store.drmartens.co.uk/p-278-1919.aspx They are extremely comfortable. I have been wearing Docs since I was 18 and they were only available in a store that sold punk stuff. Now they are in the malls and online, but I find them to be the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn.

I just bought a pair of docs on monday. They are a great pair of boots/shoes! I just broke them in today.

I love those docs! I wonder if the girls would like a pair like that next time I buy them shoes.

I have those shoes in red leather! They took a little while to break in (and I decided to break them in on a weekend trip to Chicago where we walked for miles…not fun) but after that they were comfy.

My only gripe is that they run a little large and Doc Martens don’t come in half sizes. I’m normally a size 8 and they are loose on me. They also dig in at the ankle which gave me blisters at first. I got a heel cushion to take care of that, though.

And I’m hooked on Zappos.com. I love the free shipping, and it saves me trips to multiple stores to find the exact style of shoe I have in mind. I have larger calves and they have some very cute wide-calf boots. DH rolls his eyes whenever he sees me on that site. I tell him there is no such thing as too many shoes. 😃
