Doctor's of the church

I am just wondering why haven’t the likes of St Dominic, St Benedict or St Francis been considered doctor of the church, the entire rule, charism and spirituality of their orders have graced us with numerous saints. How about the likes of St Louie De Montfort, St Edith Stein, St Faustina, St Pope Paul VI, and St Pope John Paul II,

Just wondering what does it take to become Doctor of the church and who do you think will be the next one.

Not necessarily “next,” but I think that St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein) will be one. Everyone should read her “Science of the Cross,” it’s magnificent.
I think it’s a bit soon to expect her, St. Faustina, or St. John Paul II. These things usually take time.
 
A “Doctor of the Church” is one who contributed significantly to theology or doctrine through their “research, study, or writing.” The saints you mention like St. Dominic, St. Benedict and St. Francis made great contributions, but not really through “research, study or writing.”

I think St. Pope John Paul II might become a Doctor of the Church one day. I suspect St. Louis de Montfort’s Mariology writings are too controversial.
