I’m a Catholic who’s recently been having some trouble with a few Catholic practices (I saw a similar thread here, but I did not want to hijack it).
Those practices are:
Those practices are:
- Priestly celibacy (while it is often justified by Scripture, it is not a truly ancient practice and priests marrying was acceptable for hundreds of years with no problem. The reasons for the change are hopelessly outdated, and I think it does more harm than good.)
- Marking the forehead with ash on Ash Wednesday. (This may seem a small thing but it is a direct contradiction of Mt 6:16-18: When you fast, do not act like the Pharisees with a sad look, for they disfigure their faces, so that every one knows that they are fasting. Yet I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you fast, brush your hair, and wash your face, that you appear not to be fasting, but to your father which is in secret only. And your father, which sees, will reward you openly.)
