Does a Beatification Mass fulfill the Sunday obligation?

My wife, my merry band of children and I are wondering whether going to the marvelous beatification Mass of the Blessed Solanus Casey fulfills our Sunday obligation. The Mass began at 4 PM, but I’m not sure if that makes it qualify as vigil or not.
 
Why would you attend such an important mass on Saturday and not attend Mass on Sunday, obligation or not?
 
That wasn’t the question, and frankly it isn’t our place to judge others for when and how often the choose to attend Mass.
 
You are correct…its Christ’s job, but perhaps Matthew 8:21 sheds light on this.
 
I’m not sure because the readings were no doubt different . Not sure how it works. I’d say your fine just do the readings for Sunday.
 
The answer is to the question is yes. Any Mass on Sunday or the evening before satisfies the Sunday obligation. A Saturday Mass at 4pm is an evening Mass.

From the Catechism:

"The Sunday obligation
2180 The precept of the Church specifies the law of the Lord more precisely: "On Sundays and other holy days of obligation the faithful are bound to participate in the Mass."117 "The precept of participating in the Mass is satisfied by assistance at a Mass which is celebrated anywhere in a Catholic rite either on the holy day or on the evening of the preceding day.“118”
 
Thanks for your answers, everyone! We haven’t decided whether we’re going tomorrow, but it’s good to know what our obligations are. 🙂
 
I won’t pretend to have an answer to your question, but I just wanted to say that it was a beautiful Mass, with some of the best music I’ve ever heard in a televised Mass.

(Until the tenor soloist started going crazy on “Taste and See”, but I’ll give him a pass.)

I wish I could have gone…but I had to work. If you’re still in the area and would like to come to a TLM, St. Joseph’s Oratory has Solemn High Mass at 11.

Judgey much?

My husband and I only attend Mass on Saturday unless there’s a family obligation. It’s a legitimate Mass of Choice.

A few acceptions are for family obligations, or when we were married on a Saturday Morning, we held off going to Mass until Sunday.
 
Talk about judgment! I asked why not, without pronouncing judgment. Perhaps you should work on removing the log in your own eye before dogging at the splinter in mine.

You asked why they would miss mass on Sunday. As if it was crazy. It’s not.
 
With all charity, I don’t have the bandwidth to choose my words that will be understandable to you…so let’s leave it at that and stop the tit for tat…im out of this one.
 
The reading don’t make the difference. The Mass started at 4:00 it would "count’ There may have been people traveling to Detroit who had to go back on Sunday too. I went and was planning on going to mass anyway (single no kids) But woke up sick.
