Does a divorced person need an annulment in order to join the Catholic Church?

HI, I have an RCIA candidate in my class who is a Congregational Church member and got married to his wife in the Dutch reformed church of South Africa. THey are divorced and hos wife is still living. He wants to become catholic. Does he need to have hos first marriage annulled, because he is living with another women so that he can get married to her in the Catholic Church?
