Does a person have to be worthy of God's Love?

If we had to be “worthy” to be loved by God, everyone here would be in a mell of a hess.

Just the fact we EXIST is proof God loves us.

The whole point of Christianity is that Jesus supplies any “worthiness” we need.

What of this whole heaven and hell bit then?
 
No person ever was worthy of God’s love. No person ever will be worthy of God’s love. Period. Full stop. That’s the neat thing about God’s love – it comes to us anyway. Pretty cool. I like it that way, because I happen to not be a nice person on the inside.

God loves everybody. He loves us so much that he’s given us the ultimate in freedom. The freedom (known as “Free Will”) is to love him in return.

If we love him in return we’re united with him

If we don’t we separate ourselves from him. Hell is that state/place where we have permanently separated ourselves from God.

God will respect the choice we make. If he didn’t… it wouldn’t be really a gift from him.
 
Another way we Orthodox put it is that the Gates of Hell are locked from the inside.
