Does a Pope have to be an intellectual?

To become pope you should have to be a stand out in the college of cardinals (practically).
This group has many intellectual men who would also have great pastoral experience.
Excepting politics, there is no reason why (at the moment) any serious candidate would not possess the myriad of qualities a pope should have.

that meme makes Pope Francis look the best in my opinion. The most pragmatic one.
