Does a Saturday evening wedding Mass fulfill the Sunday obligation?

My family and I recently attended a Saturday evening (6 PM) wedding Mass. My wife said that this fulfilled our Sunday obligation since it was on Saturday and after 5. I told her it did not, since the readings were not the Sunday readings but were specific for the wedding vows.

Who’s right?
 
Neither of you, although your wife is only partially incorrect.

She is correct that the nuptial Mass fulfilled the Sunday obligation but she is incorrect about the timing issue. Any Mass on a Saturday afternoon – meaning after noon – fulfills the Sunday obligation. The readings of the Mass do not determine whether the Mass fulfills the obligation.
