Yes, they do. During the last moment of the atheist’s death when we pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for him/her, Jesus will come as a merciful savior before the judging starts. Then it is up to the atheist to accept Him or reject him.

"My daughter, encourage souls to say the chaplet which I have given to you. It pleases Me to grant everything they ask of Me by saying the chaplet. … Write that when they say this chaplet in the presence of the dying, I will stand between My Father and the dying person, not as the just Judge but as the merciful Savior ( Saint Faustina Diary , 1541).

Anybody who says yes or no absolutely is being presumptuous. The fact is this. God laid out a path for salvation for us that overcomes original sin and actual sin that closes heaven to us. That is the Church and her sacraments. If God chooses to use another Avenue that is His right. But we are told of the only way we can be sure of.

I don’t think that’s for us to know. It’s entirely between that person & God.

Will a former atheist go to heaven? Maybe.
Will an unrepentant atheist go to heaven? No.

That is between the atheist and God of course. But rejection of God is a grave matter. Remember this:
‘But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the polluted, as for murderers, fornicators, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their lot shall be in the lake that burns with fire and sulphur, which is the second death.’ - Rev 21:8

If you deny and hate God, why would you want to spend eternity with Him?

Human beings are considerably more complicated than the thin black and white labels we apply to real persons!

You are really asking no more than a conceptual tautology.
You may as well ask whether someone who doesnt ever ever want God (the conceptual definition of an atheist) will want to be with God forever in heaven? The answer is clearly no.

Whether any given real world person you care to name actually is such a person is unknown…possibly also unknown to that person him or her self.

Most atheists don’t hate god… any more than we hate thor or zues or the easter bunny. I’m sure there are some that do, but my guess is that someone who hates god isn’t an atheist but a believer who hates god.

I agree.
I do believe an athiest CAN find his or her way into heaven.

From the Baltimore catechism;
Q. 510. Is it ever possible for one to be saved who does not know the Catholic Church to be the true Church?

A. It is possible for one to be saved who does not know the Catholic Church to be the true Church, provided that person:

1.(1) Has been validly baptized;

2.(2) Firmly believes the religion he professes and practices to be the true religion, and

3.(3) Dies without the guilt of mortal sin on his soul.

Q. 511. Why do we say it is only possible for a person to be saved who does not know the CatholicChurch to be the true Church?

A. We say it is only possible for a person to be saved who does not know the Catholic Church to be the true Church, because the necessary conditions are not often found, especially that of dying in a state of grace without making use of the Sacrament of Penance.

Well we now know, it seems, the Catechism, though popular, was in error re 510. But then it was never a universal Catechism issued by the Magisterium.

Atheists sometimes say they don’t believe in an old man in the sky, or a vengeful god, or a god who created evil. As Bishop Robert Barron has said, I don’t believe in that god either. Perhaps some atheists have a kind of faith, or a seed of faith.
