Does an atheist go to heaven?

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Question. This sounds to me like faith is given by God. So, if one doesn’t have faith it isn’t their fault? This interpretation would help explain my situation where I did not desire nor seek to lose my faith… I tried desperately to keep it, prayed for it and only silence in return.

Do you think God may deny faith for some reason only He understands?
