Well, no but I assume he is not just talking about his potential employer’s personal opinion.
I read the OP as more like the company participating in Pride Month or donating funds as a company to groups that advocate same sex marriage.

I didn’t read it as employing or trading with gay people.

OP, I’d suggest if you are concerned you ask them straight out in the interview using the words you used in the first post.

That should take care of any problem. It will probably also mean you won’t get a lot of offers, however.

I’m talking about the agendas of support like Pride or if the company openly defends gay marriage.

If they are just not being discriminatory, then I’m okay with that.

They are protected in some states. There are court cases upholding the rights of employers to fire someone for being gay where those protections don’t exist.

There is a difference between a legally protected class and a group that simply has the backing of public opinion.

Right.

They’re not protected by law in every state.

But a lot of employers voluntarily adopt nondiscrimination policies, because they want to maintain a positive work environment and/or because they want to attract good employees.

Employers today are smart enough to know that if they say, “we don’t hire gays; we don’t want their kind working here,” it wouldn’t make good business sense.

Oh sure. I agree. But we need to make sure our terminology is accurate.
