sounds Italian…Ricordo means a memory or memento, del is a contraction of di and il which means of the, and Santuario could mean Sanctuary, but I’m not positive.
I have never seen medals like these. they are kind of old, and they are enameled. One of the medals is a pansy on one side ,and these very dark skinned figures of the Madonna and child on the other side
I am sure it depicts the Madonna and Christ because they are wearing crowns with crosses on top of them…the one with the inscription is very tiny and a small enamel oval inside a tiny silver frame…
Thank you gentlemen. I found these medals in a box at a Church rummage sale…I couldn’t bear to see them destroyed so I put them on my charm bracelet which is a collection of medals
I have never seen the Madonna dressed like this, It kind of looks like she is Egyptian or African…They ( the medals)are humble little things but I have grown quite fond of them
I saw a similar image yesterday, although Mary and Jesus were whiter, but both crowned with what almost remineded me of the Papal Tiara, kind of an egg shaped crown, with a cross on top
im doing some google searching, and the image as of yet still alludes me.
I wish i actually knew the person whose house i was at so I could ask him. But alas he is a youth leader from a different Church, and i was simply invited by a friend. His house had more statues and pictures than i could get my head around
very simply it means souvenir of the sanctuary. The medal was sold at a holy site and the image on that medal, of course, is directly connected with that site.
