Jesus didn’t participate in worldly activities… If he lived today, He would not watch TV or go to the movies… He would not live in a mansion…

Why do we admire people who fornicate (famous couple who keeps having children but doesn’t get married… ) but no attention is given to people who realy live like Jesus - meaning they give up the world and spend a lot of time in prayer and good works… There ARE people like that in the world… but you don’t hear about them in the “regular” news…

Anyway… the question is: Do you think there is something you could be doing someaht differently than you are used to doing… in order to be more truly like Jesus??

No exactly to be more like Jesus, but I’m decluttering my life as best I can - and it’s costing a fortune in ebay fees 😃 My plan is eventually I will be left with all that I need to function in relation to family and work, but no more.
This will hopefully help me focus on waste, greed, excess, and free more time and mental energy for prayer and contemplation.

I have long given up the battle with my two daughters though 😃 😃

I admire you… (don’t know what you mean exactly by ebay fees, though??)…

And waht is the problem with your 2 daughters, if you care to elaborate?? Just wondering…

Anyway… do you happen to know where i myself could find more stories about people who live like Jesus… You know, since Mother Teresa is gone and all… 😦

Living like Jesus? I don’t know - but you can read all about the Saints who lived their lives as good Christians.

I’m listing that much stuff the listing fees are big and their commission is bigger 😃

They have no concept that they have one pair of feet and can thus only wear one pair of shoes at a time. And apparently every time they get a new top, or a new skirt, they also have to get a new pair of shoes to go with it coz the other 156 pairs they have just dont cut it 😃 😃 And thats just for starters 😃

What about books on the lives of living contemplatives and monks in presnet time. The Benedictines, Trappists, and others have some excellent modern authors on various aspects of modern living and how to make space for God.

well yeah, but being a saint in t he old days was easy😃

i want to know about a saintly person who is living NOW…

Kinda weird that i don’t know of one already… I mean, there are a lot of good practicing Catholics… but i don’t know of any who go out of their way to … feed the hungry, save the lost… etc…

I have limited resources but do what i can to feed starving people in other countries… & etc… but i don’t feel i am much like Jesus… at least not like i should be… (??). Well… now that i think about it… maybe each person reflects some attribute of Christ… & we can’t all be … or even should try to be(???) well… clones of Mother teresa… i dont know… i am kind of thinking aloud…

It is true that there are so many distractions nowaday, but following Jesus has never been easy - ask the Apostles and see how easy it was. 🙂

I see that you are looking for someone out there who does lots of deeds. I am sure there are many out there, but while waiting to get information on those people, why not stopping by your parish and see a little bit of goodness in those who serve your parish.

For example: if your parish has Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, then stop by and ask them what kinds of things they do and see if you are interested in joining them.

i have other things i am involved with, but used to work for St. V de Paul… I feel the work i am doing now is more important… although it is also more difficult… I don’t really like to talk about it, though…

Anyway, it seems that a lot of people are into taking care of people’s bodies but are not all that concerned about hteir souls… I asked this one Catholic place that houses people (young people) if they teach the Catholic faith to them… It seems to me the answer was, basically, that they respect the person’s religion… Well, i am not goingto contribute to an organization that does not share the Faith with the ones they are trying to help… at least in some small way…

i have read books on saints… monks… i just wanted to find a person who is living like Jesus… in this day and age… I know there are a lot of “obscure” people doing this… Maybe those hidden ones need to have their stories shared… somehow…

Anyway, i hope you are not wishy-washy with your duaghters. I know someone who was always trying to be friends with her children… Now none of the children bothers to contact her at all… she knows now she should have disciplined them far better than she did… etc, etc…

It isn’t goingto kill them to be “poor”… and poor in this country is rich by other country’s standards… The world has enough materialistic people… and besides, your daughters’ primary concern should be the salvation of their souls… although young people don’t generally think about such things… they think they are goingto live forever… or something…

I am glad to hear of someone who is going against society’s materialistic grain… 🙂

Jesus teaches us to take care the poor. This includes those that are lack of physical food as well as spiritual food. Different organization focuses on different task - whichever way, people will come to know God.

If you don’t like to work on the feeding physical food, then find someone that are visiting prison, nursing home - there are so many people that you can talk to and learn about.

Otay… 🙂

You know you might not find a person willing to release the information you ask for since Jesus tells us to lock our selves in a closet and don’t let the right hand know what the left hand does.

What this tells you is that in the world it may seem that one person does the things you relate to, however in God’s eyes God mey know that this is not how it should be that God is not being glorified how He should.
Hence you may not gain this information.

Godbless

I try to be somewhat like Jesus. I am willing to be willing to wish to be much more like Him. But I really doubt He would refuse to see a movie or anything like that. It would depend on the movie. I think He would refuse to see one that was very vulgar if it could teach nothing and help no one for Him to do so, but a harmless one-reeler with a friend, why not? As long as it didn’t waste a whole day/night or do any harm.🤷 He would probably have the same attitude to all entertainment. Just so it didn’t reach a level of selfish preoccupation or become a source of cruelty or perversity or any such thing.

I don’t think we can know for sure, if Jesus would have or not, watched tv. I mean, He was born in an entirely different time…Mass is often given on tv…He might have watched that!😃

We heard a lot about Mother Teresa, and we often hear about good people, doing good things, all the time. I agree that a lot of praise is given to people not following Christ, but it’s part of the world we live in, and we must allow Jesus to shine through us, in the midst of such a warped world.

Anyway… the question is: Do you think there is something you could be doing someaht differently than you are used to doing… in order to be more truly like Jesus??
Yes–I could spend less, and be less anxious at times. But, it’s in the striving, that we should be doing. It’s in the striving to be perfect like Christ…but, being more like Christ, should be a byproduct of following Him, of naturally wanting to mirror His fine examples on earth. I think while it’s hard, we need to strive towards holiness each day.

Distracted,

I think it’s important to be like Jesus in the duties of our state in life. In whatever we do, we should model Christ for those we work with, our friends and our families. Like that quote from Teddy Roosevelt: “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”

St. Therese of Lisieux talks about all the little things you can do from moment to moment with great love. Trishie posted this quote by St. Therese in another thread:
Let us not refuse Him even the smallest sacrifice; everything is so important in religion, that even picking up a pin, if it is done through love, can convert a soul. What a great mystery! It is Jesus alone who can give such value to our actions; let us love Him with all our hearts.”
I imagine there are quite a few saintly people in the world, quietly doing God’s will in the little things they do throughout the day.

When I’ve heard this, it’s typically from the Little Rascals show… “Otay Panky!” from Buckwheat as he was saying “okay Spanky!”

It’s a humorous way of agreeing with you.
ohh. Thanks. I haven’t seen the show.

Actually, we don’t know very much about Jesus. We know his mission within about a 3 year span out of his 30 something years, but we don’t know his personal life.

We don’t know what he enjoyed in everyday life or what he did for a living.

We speculate, but thats all.

In Jesus time, living day to day was the modus operandi for common people.

Perhaps he enjoyed street entertainment, i.e. plays, music, poets or whatever, if they existed in his time.

We know, he enjoyed spending time with his friends, and everything he did, was according to the will of His Father.

That all being said, we have to live a life of prudence and virtue. It doesn’t require going to extremes. Television has bad, but it also has much good. You have to discern which programs you should not be watching.
