Does any one watch EWTN?

I’m a cable cutter.

It used to be our default channel growing up though.

I don’t have cable or a Roku. They do have a YouTube playlist so I could watch that way. I wish they would make more focused series covering topics and better still make some documentaries.

Abundant Life is on right now. I often like, or at least fairly often, enjoy the shows Johnette does. They werre just now talking about prayer and spending time with God… I should get back into the habit of watching.

Some stuff bores me but other things I really like.

So you can go to live streaming easily…

I recently started watching, and it’s interesting thus far. The production quality is so low that it’s kind of adorably nostalgic. It comforts me to watch calm religious shows that look like they’re from a nicer time.

Well, it’s the content that counts. 🙂 They don’t have billion dollar budgets either to make everything look all dazzling in the modern video broadcasting age. But it can really feed your faith, especially if you’re aspiring or contemplating becoming Catholic.

I totally agree. What’s going on, I think, is that the programming is exactly as M. Angelica wanted it or as close to that as possible – those rosary programs that they run over and over - nothing updated.

I don’t like how the had her mic’d up, ditto with Fr Mitch – we’re treated to listening to them breathe or glugg water, etc. It’s distracting.

EWTN practically drove MA to the grave, forcing her to emcee programs after her stroke. Same with Fr. Mitch. EWTN does not seem to want to do any succession planning, to rotate other nuns or priests in for EWTN Live duty. I think they’re scared of losing viewers by putting in new people on the air. Their finances are secret, although if you listen for a week, you’ll catch how much they must be spending on air travel, for example – sending a whole contingent to Fatima for this year’s Oct 13th anniversary or keeping “Joan” in Rome for 'Rome Reports-- (where do I apply?)

EWTN has an agenda for filing for the cause of canonization of MA, for sure. One of the priests used to talk about how they have readied the paperwork for it. I think they use MA for pure marketing purposes – she’s a brand name. When MA was lying in state in the Hanceville Shrine, Fr. Joseph was “working” touching cloths to her remains to create all these first (or second?) class relics. In building her own “crypt” tomb, I challenge anybody to argue that she was humble – humble would have been a pine box in the ground. MA was buried like a pope. EWTN has performed a de facto canonization of MA.

MA once admitted that hundreds of people at EWTN do all the work and she gets all the credit. At least she was honest about that. I didn’t like MA, can you tell?

One advantage is not having all the crazy, distracting graphics you have on modern news shows. Not having cable for a few years when I see those shows they make me want to pluck my eyes out.

i watch ewtn everyday

i think ewtn may have a cash flow problem; so there is not any new programming

the mother angelica episodes (imo) are running out of gas and have been repeated too many times

father pacwa might be last bulwark of the network

i think ewtn is in financial trouble

really? man, when advent comes around, that advent wreath overlay is there almost all the time on the screen, so no one forgets for ONE SECOND that it’s advent.

a couple years ago, the late Deacon S. said that “mother” was very popular in Germany – as opposed to what, I tried to imagine? As I said in a separate comment, I think they spend vast sums on transportation. Ray Arroyo used to commute in from New Orleans for his programs. Marcus Grodi commutes in for the Journey Home program from Ohio, and fr. Mitch from Texas, I think. Pacwa related once that he’s been to the Holy Land over 50 times – WHAT FOR? Who paid for that? If there’s a cash flow problem, the cause is plain.

I thank all the faithful people who keep EWTN on the air, but there’s really no accounting – publicly – of how they spend all those donations – for good reason, I think.,

If I started a Catholic network like MA did, I, too, would have myself named FIRST in the mass intentions
When MA had a stroke, the priests were even tallying how many rosaries were being prayed by viewers for the recovery of MA. Philosophically, why did she need so much prayer?

I love Mother Angelica. She’s a saint in my book, right along with Padre Pio.

ewtn (it seems to me) spends a lot of money broadcasting live events that nobody cares about (eg the installation of the bishop of helena montana)
all ray arroyo does on his program is promote his own books

In all fairness, Raymond only does that half the time. 😀

(I don’t much care for the installation masses myself. Maybe we can organize some sort of CAF petitions.)

well ewtn is a multi-media global blockbuster

or at least they used to be

i love ewtn

but their televised programs to me are old & stale

i love Mother Angelica but her broadcasts from the 1980’s & 90’s that i’ve seen for the 30th time are BORING

i know donations to EWTN have dropped dramatically

the newtwork needs a FRESH approach

AND as along as at least some of us are discussing EWTN

i will just respectfully mention my mild, brief comment about blessed Father Pacwa:

Dear Father Pacwa,

you use the phrase “ONE OF THE THINGS” in every other sentence you say

respectfully

I tend to repeat words when I type a few sentences. Then I must go back and change it. I wonder if I"m the only person that does that. Probably am. Oh well.

At least I don’t say “like” in every other sentence. But I live in a college town and guess what?? 😱

I watch it occasionally. I have quite a lot of shows recorded that I am yet to watch.

EWTN also have an app by the way that you can download and watch live streams on there.
